Re: [TWC] Roll out date for the Samsung H3090

Your division might get the 3260 or the 3270. Thats what TWC San Diego is going to use starting by the end of April.

The 3270 still has the stretch-o-vision guide. Same with the 3090. The 3270 for all I know could be a 3090 with a 1 GHz tuner and some minor enhancements. I can confirm that all next gen TWC DVR's will have the 320 GB HDD.

I have an 8240hdc - I was just wondering if you guys know what version of HDMI it supports ?? I'm guessing it's not hdmi 1.3 but I can't find any answers online.

also are there any superior hd boxes from TWC at the moment ? I live in Northeast Ohio area.

Probably 1.0 or 1.1. Yes there are better boxes from Samsung but they all run the same software as the 8240HDC. The 8240HDC and 8300HDC are both the same thing. Just that the 8240HDC lacks the analog tuner which isn't really needed anymore since TWC is using digital simulcasts of the analog channel. The Samsung 3260 and 3270 boxes are close to being released sometime soon in San Diego but other divisions will have to wait for them. They will also need to test them so that it will be good enough for consumers. TWC might even use Moto boxes in NEO. So it could be either Samsung or Motorola depending on the headend and the management.

I still hear that TWC San Diego and other divisions are going to use the 32xx boxes. The Samsung DVR has it's flaws. It has a tendency to miss shows for some reason. I guess this is something they can fix in the next version of ODN. Would be nice to see a full 16:9 HD guide since it's just the 4:3 SA/Cisco guide stretched to 16:9. Hope this helps.

httpwwwdslreport is me. So yeah it's buggy but the newer box the 3270 is better from what I've heard. The 3090 has a 1 GHz tuner. Not all divisions are ordering the 320 GB HDD. Milwaukee is deploying the 160 GB version. Most divisions are going to deploy the 320 GB version with home networking.

will the DCX-3432 come out in motorola markets or will the DCX-3425 come out with the tru-2-way i-guide.

Probably the 3432 with multiroom features and the tru2way iGuide. They could just run them with ODN and have iGuide on the older boxes.

Okay, this morning I was speaking to my Client Relation specialist and told her that I was having issues with my SA 8300HDC DVR. I asked if I could switch it for the Samsung DVR at Queens Center Mall where they have a retail location. She says they do have that box available for pickup.

I lug that stupid STB on the train all the way to the mall. When I get there they said the Samsung DVR is only for employees to beta test. Awesome! So I regretfully take another, new 8300HCD. I told them to give me a $13 credit to cover the cab ride home. Bingo.

While we were going through the whole exchange, the guy told me that when the Samsung DVR is release, "you will see commercials" for the unit.

So I'm guessing that since they will be advertising this STB, that there will be some offer of multi-room or other feature that would be worth funding an ad campaign.

Yep the Samsung has networking features. Our division will be launching it soon. We'll probably get the all digital 320 GB version since we have Digital Simulcasts of the analogs. There is one with a 160 GB HDD that has both an analog and a digital. Our division was testing a newer Samsung model with a 320 GB HDD. They said by the end of this month. Knowing TWC it will be next month. I've heard that the hardware is great.

LOL, knowing TWC. If they want to keep up the same performance record as they have with Flushing internet issues, it'll be more like one year.

My divisions president said the hardware has been great. Other employees say it has a few issues. This is the magical 32xx. I'll try to get one but it might be until after they started to deploy them.

Interesting article on Samsung and other new cable boxes. Cisco/SA and Motorola will still make the cable cards but the boxes canbe made by other companies. Buffalo is testing the Samsung boxes. San Diego is testing an even newer Samsung box that should be coming out soon.

I talked to a TW installer and he said his division is testing the H3090 which were supposed to be deployed by the end of this month, but he was told they'll start deploying it next month. Boxes should be available for pickup at Queens Center Mall.

We have to wait until July since there were some issues with the current version of ODN. Our division is still testing the SMT-H3260 HD-STB and the SMT-H3270 HD-DVR. The next version of Navigator will fix these bugs and it might be a little bit longer.

Of course all 3090 owners who use both HDMI and AC3 will have to enable it in the diagnostic menu. Press Vol+ and Info and it will go into that menu. Go to Extended Diagnostic and enter Enable AC3 over HDMI. You'll be prompted a complex and difficult password . Enter 3090 and exit out of the menu and Enjoy!

I would suspect you have some form of signal issues that are causing your issues...I doubt its the boxes.
I haven't got the same problems as Anclar, but have had to change my box about 4 times since I first started using the DVR back in 2003.

All 4 times it was a CRASHED harddrive. I could have been extremely unlucky of course. The unit is sitting out in the open, 2 feet away from the TV on top of furniture, and is well ventilated.

This last box has lasted the longest.... about 2 years now.

Though the 3090 might not be deployed and be replaced with the 3270. Lots of problems there Maartena. The 320 GB HDD of the Samsung is a nice touch but they are also deploying 160 GB versions as well. The 3270 being deployed in San Diego has a 320 GB HDD. There are some issues with them though.
