rv65 : San Diego is getting the Samsung SMT-H3270 HD-DVR. It's newer and better than the 3090. It has a very similar architecture though. A TWC employee said they went with Samsung since he says SA is really going downhill in QC. When Cisco tookover SA is when the quality when downhill. They built them in Mexico as cheaply as they could with little QC though my 8300HDC seems to be solid even with ODN. The 8300HDC's with SARA seem to be better than the 8300HDC's running ODN. However, TWC will ditch SARA for ODN starting sometime this year.
--
SA 8300HDC ODN v3.1.1_3
SMT-H3260 ODN v3.1.1_3
SA 4250HDC ODN v3.1.1_3

Say NO to screen clutter.
I hate snipes and so should you! For some reason the management wanted to save a few bucks and ordered the 160 GB version. Except our division has good management that realizes that 160 GB is just not enough.
anon : Boxes have rolled out to Charlotte, just got it last weekend. Only has the 160gb drive. I HIGHLY doubt TWC will be spending the money for the 320's even with the analog/digital/HD multicasts. Only 1 complaint about the box, apparently the newest software that was loaded to the box does not support eSATA. Picks up the 1TB drive I have hooked up, but once the onboard drive is full the DVR locks up including the live buffer and even shows 11% full in the program list. I guess this is TWC's definition of '6 of one, half dozen of the other.'

All the sudden she said that she couldn't give me the box, her only explanation was That I live in Queens and those boxes were only for Manhattan...what?!?!?
I felt a little frustrated that I tried to get an explanation , but the only reason I got was "IT's because I live in Queens", and that I should go to a TWC center in Queens. And then she went back to keep talking to her friends, and she ignored me.

My question is, Why does TWC have these people working in its Customer Service department when they don't have any manners, don't have any information about TWC's products, and don't care about customers??

Someone has to talk to that CSR woman on desk number 12 at the 23rd street office at Manhattan NY!

Going back to the topic. The Samsung 3260 and 3270 boxes are close to being released sometime soon in San Diego but other divisions will have to wait for them. Samsung does have more memory and CPU which is nice. The SMT-H3090 does offer networked DVR if TWC orders it. TWC is a member of MoCA and Samsung is their OCAP development partner. TWC has been deploying Samsung SMT-H3050 boxes which are run of the mill HD non DVR's.

It also depends on the Software. There are areas like NY which are still on SARA software. Navigator has been deployed in Passport areas like San Diego. SARA areas have yet to see Navigator. SARA does pretty much what Navigator does so why change over to Navigator. TWC developed Navigator in house though it's been a rough road. San Diego has the latest version of both ODN and MDN. MDN is the non OCrAP version for non HDC boxes. Passport divisions even got Pioneer, and Pace boxes. The new versions of Navigator are much better and have improved. I hope TWC continues to make Navigator just as good, if not better than Passport which was one of the best Digital Cable guides ever created imo.

I have never had any problems here with my boxes either. I had the 8300HD, then went with the 8300HDC (no reason, just I wanted the upgrade), and I never experienced problems with the box. When I decided to downgrade my DVR and get an additional digital box for my house, the 2 4250HDC's that I have don't have problems either. I did have an SDV related issue when they rolled it out, but it was on their end, and was fixed in a day or two. Definitely signal issues, not box issues. Especially if you have to keep returning your box and seem to be getting the same problem.
--
TW WNY - Surf & View Package + Digital Variety | 52" Samsung DLP hooked to SA4250HDC via HDMI Cable | 22" LG Flatron monitor hooked to SA4250HDC via HDMI to DVI Cable | Let's Go Buffalo... Maint. came out fixed that problem was fine for a few weeks then started again, have had 2 more techs out and say nothing wrong, they replaced our boxes as well still same problem. We no longer rent movies from TWC, because it more trouble than it worth. :( Does anyone have any thoughts what else we can do? I talked to guy in our area that does side jobs that works for TWC and said something about there a loop that connects everything for our division, that was just installed last year or something along those lines and said the bandwidth was already maxed out, and they have nothing but problems with it. Not sure if that has to do with my problem or not, sorry I don't recall the details of what he was saying either.

rv65 : It's still too early to tell if it will come out. I believe both boxes are in testing. Thats what my division's president said. The Samsung SMT-H3090 runs the same software as the 8300HDC but has better specs. It can run MPEG-4 and multi room DVR. TWC might be really nice to us and order them with 320 GB HDD's. That too is worth swapping. Having an extra 160 GB helps with all the new HD content. I don't think they'll do a mass MPEG-4 rollout due to all the legacy MPEG-2 boxes. MPEG-4 does use less bandwidth than MPEG-2.
