This actually makes sense

So far, everyone is accustomed to getting everything for free on the web - news, sports, stock quotes, etc. But, this is really being subsidized by other channels such as newspapers and cable TV. As these are dying off, the content providers will need to make money from somewhere. I for one do not want to subscribe to a whole lot of sites with a whole lot of passwords and monthly charges. I would prefer if my ISP provided a complete set of services included in my ISP bill. This is no different that the way I pay for cable. The services could include: News, Sports, Computer Backup, etc.

Ultimately, there is going to have to be some sort of revenue model other than advertising for this content. If not, the quality will go down or the content will disappear.

My two cents.

Kind of like how people on Earth will stop making music if the folks at Sony/BMG don't get their cut, right?

Not to mention that the folks who are majorly profiting from CD sales are record label execs, not the artists themselves. The artists make much more money from live performances and the like, rather than from cd sales.

That's simply not true. A lot of these sites make money from ads, sponsorships and partnerships. They are by no means subsidized. In fact a lot of "new media" websites are seeing growth while their sister companies traditional media operations are seeing shrinkage and losses.

Lol, you want everybody else to subsidize for services you use. I think not. I don't want to pay a penny more for a website I'll never visit.

No this DOES NOT make sense. So if half the sites I want are with at&t and the other half are on Charter then either way I'm losing HALF. How does that make sense? Let me have acccess to all and let ME decide which ones I'm willing to pay for.

MLB.tv does it right. Everyone potentially has access to it. Only those that want to pay for it do. Not so sure what is wrong with that.

More like your 6000 and twenty two cents if your way works out.

Not all of us want broadband bills starting at around $80 a month for basic tiers with caps and overages on top of that, and our rates increasing 4 times the rate of inflation every year.
