Fiber Customers?

As a fiber customer in wisconsin, Im now concerned that when Charter decides to file bankruptcy against the people they owe money too, that they wont up and decide to just cut their network connection from the major backbones of the internet.

I know this sounds major but if someone file bankruptcy against me and I had control of their network, I cut the fiber connections in a heart beat.

Why should the people who did work for Charter and not got paid be screwed?

You cannot just cut the fiber if they file chapter 11. They are protected from retaliation from the debtors. More than likely the debtors are loans and bonds not the providers of the backbones. Most providers will not let someone go that far in arrears before disconnection.

I would say you have nothing to worry about. The media is going to jump all over this. Charter may be in debt, but they have strategic debt strategies that keep them with a good operating cash flow. They will not go under any time soon. And if for some reason that were to happen, your service would not be interrupted. Theyre are laws in place that protect that from happening. They provide 911 phone service and life line connections for hospitals, etc. Your services are protected by law, and someone would be maintaining your connections. Communication companies may go under, but services will not get shut down.
