file already!

It's about time they got it over with. And of course this filing chooses the same path a lot of others have chosen to get out of the red. Remember MCI/Worldcomm? Virtually every airline?

Here in St. Louis Charter bought up a cable system that was originally built by contractors the city brought in. City ran it for several years, sold it to AT & T who mutilated it and sold it to Charter who bought a seriously crappy cable TV company. Service has greatly improved from those days but over the past few - ever since they outsourced tech support - service became very flaky and tech support became useless.

If they want to save the company this is a good step. Next they need to hire REAL tech support. We have plenty of laid off people who could do that job with our eyes closed right here in St. Louis. Come get us! Half the trouble calls they end up sending techs out for could be eliminated if you had tech support that was actually able to walk someone through a few simple steps.

In the end filing will help Charter reduce it's debt load. But will it help them create a better company? Or will they sell off to some creeps like Con...err Comcast?

The crystal ball does not tell me this.

The St. Charles part of Charter's phone service is AT&T's CBR-based phone service. The rest of St. Louis is using Charter's VoIP service.

Only reason why I know this is because I used to work there doing tech support for their phone service.

The reason why I quit Charter is because of their lack of ethics on how to treat customers. They'd rather force customers to buy more products instead of actually fixing their problems.

For example, I've seen many a customer go without dialtone for a week. Having no dialtone on any phone service for more than 24 hours is an FCC violation. I'm surprised the FCC hasn't stepped in and completely buried Charter in citations/fees/penalties/etc for all the customers they've screwed over.

Charter's techs are forced to follow a script called "S2S" or "Service 2 Sales" for their tech support personnel. You can be the best tech in the world working there, but if you don't sell anything, you're considered worthless in their eyes and they'll fire you without blinking.
