[ex-VZ] Fairpoint DSL issues in NH since cut over from Verizon

On the day of the cut over, my DSL went out. Modem was unable to sync. I had tried calling thier 800 support number and was on hold for 30 mins or longer, I never reached anyone. After a few days of trying, I was greeted with a recording saying they were not taking calls and to use the web chat. I tried the web chat and they told me they could not troubleshoot DSL issues :-/

I never did get help from support, but the router synced back up 2 days ago and I am back online at very low speeds. My DNS2GO email alerts are showing that my IP address is changing every 10 to 15 mins, and I am not kidding.

I got through to thier support today. Tech knew nothing and said they do not have a tier 2. He asked around the call center and said no one has ever heard of this and asked me what I would like to do? I told him I would like it fixed. He said they would fix it if they knew what the problem was.

I tried every which way.. with my laptop to the modem, with my linksys router, with a spare modem I had, etc. same issue.

I knew as soon as this cut happened my internet would go down the drain. I have been tired of 3 MB speeds anyway.

Last time I tried comcast, speed was great but they kept shutting me down due to running and exchange server. I have moved my email to gmail apps, so I may try again.

Any feed back for the 30 MB powerboot comcast service in Milford NH area??

Re: [ex-VZ] Fairpoint DSL issues in NH since cut over from Veriz

So far my DSL connection has been stable during the transition. Router shows 5 reconnects since Christmas and speed has been stable.

I have had similar occasional problem where Verizon, now FairPoint, would be unable to maintain PPPoE session so router would connect then a few minutes later be disconnected and have to reconnect. This goes on for typically a few hours then magically cures itself. I assume root cause is a problem with RADIUS authentication server but that is just a guess.

Curious as we are both served out of Milford CO. I wonder if it has to do with date we signed up for DSL? I signed up with Verizon shortly after Vitts went belly up in July of 2001.

I signed October 2000 and have been with them since. I ordered Comcast today, they will be out Monday. 22 Mb down / 5 Mb up for $65 per month. Burst up to 30 MB. I will try it out for a month or 2 before I kill the DSL. We will see how it goes.
