Toothless

I suppose I need to read the bill. Though I hope it doesn't pass.

Seems like it's a bit toothless as of right now. Am I missing something or do they not even talk about how fast broadband is? The whole next-gen 100/20 thing would've been a boon to Verizon, yes, but it'd still get high speed fiber out there...

Yeah, so do your Reps and Senate members, but they're not going to...they haven't had TIME to...the whole bill is now from what I understand, at the 1400 pg mark...I think it was broken down that unless they started reading from the time they were handed it, to the time they're going to vote, they would have to have constantly read 640 words per minute.

And we're going to vote and pass this...WITHOUT ANYONE HAVING READ THE DAMN THING?? WTF is going on? This is unreal.

Their new definitions are:

Advanced Broadband Service - 45/15 Mbps

Advanced Wireless Broadband - 3/1 Mbps

Basic Broadband - 5/1 Mbps.

We need distributed reading. I think I'll DL the bill and read the internet portion while in flight tonight. Should be interesting...

That's not that bad. Still means the cable companies have to upgrade their plan offerings, but it also means that they'll be able to offer the stuff over DOCSIS 3. Which in turn means more people will actually get the service.

I must say that 45/15 is lousy compared to 100/20, but if it's the difference between getting "advanced broadband" and not, I'll go with 45/15. Honestly, keeping the upload above 10 Mbps is really nice.

Wireless broadband? All "they" have to do is add a tier on WiMAX. It's not even "advanced". A well-run WiMAX network, or even a WiFi based one, could blow that goal out of the water. They should've set the definition at 6/2. Still doable for WiMAX but it'd also be HD capable...
