Seems like it's a bit toothless as of right now. Am I missing something or do they not even talk about how fast broadband is? The whole next-gen 100/20 thing would've been a boon to Verizon, yes, but it'd still get high speed fiber out there... |

Advanced Broadband Service - 45/15 Mbps
Advanced Wireless Broadband - 3/1 Mbps
Basic Broadband - 5/1 Mbps.

That's not that bad. Still means the cable companies have to upgrade their plan offerings, but it also means that they'll be able to offer the stuff over DOCSIS 3. Which in turn means more people will actually get the service.
I must say that 45/15 is lousy compared to 100/20, but if it's the difference between getting "advanced broadband" and not, I'll go with 45/15. Honestly, keeping the upload above 10 Mbps is really nice.
Wireless broadband? All "they" have to do is add a tier on WiMAX. It's not even "advanced". A well-run WiMAX network, or even a WiFi based one, could blow that goal out of the water. They should've set the definition at 6/2. Still doable for WiMAX but it'd also be HD capable... |
