Re: U-verse 44 HD channels? U-verse has more than 75 channels in most markets. They're in the process of adding around 9 more. They have several that DirecTV doesn't have. If they ever manage to complete their Viacom and Disney agreements they will actually have a stronger HD lineup than DirecTV.
DirecTV does have a great HD lineup, but their numbers are inflated by the inclusion of 17 PPV HD channels. Cable and U-verse don't need to match that, as VOD is a better distribution method for PPV HD.
Interestingly, DirecTV is missing almost all of the HBO HD premiums except the E/W feeds of the primary HBO one. They could add at least 10 more HD channels if they did what they said they were going to do in a 2007 press release!
