phone in NH?

i have been using GWI for about 4 years. i am extremely pleased. one problem, however. i live in portsmouth NH, just over the river from Maine. i have been periodically checking to see if i could get phone service added on. it seems to be unavailable here in NH. frankly, i want to drop Fairpoint. anyone know if phone service will be available in NH? is there some kind of regulatory prohibition on expansion across the state line? i have been really interested in the packages that GWI has to offer, some of their phone options are perfect for me, and would save me about 15 dollars a month. not much, but enough to upgrade my internet service. i currently have the 5/1, i do like it, but could bump myself up a level to 10/1. thanks for any info. i do realize that GWI personnel look at these forums and would appreciate any direct info from them. anyway, always hopeful. have a great (works) day!!

I am glad our service is working well for you. The situation in Portsmouth is that we have all the equipment in place to offer voice service, the Portsmouth CO serves the Maine town of Kittery, but we do not have regulatory approval to sell voice in NH. Going through the process to get regulatory approval to offer voice is a non-trivial task. The rules differ from state to state on a wide variety of issues (E911, reporting requirements, taxes, non-payment cutoffs, etc) We have frequently discussed offering voice in NH, but it is not in current plans.

Sorry not to have a better answer.

regards,
Fletcher
