It would be nice if the corner office had the same performance prerequisite. A single person isn't going to drive a company* into the ground usually. It's going to take the combined effort of the management and/or board to at least approve of what the CEO is planning to do in order to get the ball rolling. The CEO may be the one that ends up being the scape goat, but (s)he's rarely solely responsible.
*- small businesses aside, I'm referring mainly to large corporations like WorldCom, Enron, etc... |
