For me, VS *2 is cheaper at $3/mo, since I stay within the included 250 plan minutes. If I wasn't on the *2 plan, then I'd most likely go with F9 (or CallCentric).

anon posted : I have money in several vosp accounts, including about $10 in a voicestick account. I don't use it because there is no way I can get it to register with my softphone and I don't want to run their softphone in addition to the one I do run (it probably doesn't work on linux anyway). It doesn't work with voxalot or sipswitch either - that's one lousy switch they have or had.

I sent an email to customer service, asking that my plan be converted to outgoing-only so I did not have to pay the $2.99 per month.

The rep emailed me back within minutes, telling me that fcc regulations required that I call them to make the change. Maybe that was because I gave them a sipbroker number and the *0111xxxx extension as my home phone number, or maybe you really do have to call in.

So I called the help-desk and, in spite of being 'first in line', waited 15 minutes without anybody picking up.

So I emailed the rep and explained what happened and asked him to cancel the account or, if he could not cancel without a callin, to let it run down - as long as my cc was not charged when the account was empty.

The rep replied, again within minutes, that in order to keep the cc from being charged, I would have to remove the cc information from my account profile, which I did.

None of this is a big deal to me, since I used up the $10 I originally paid, and have in the account only the additional $10 I was given.

And I don't mean to paint voicestick as bad or incompetent: I'm sure they are running around, what with the new switch and other changes.

But I thought it would be interesting to describe how one customer reacted, given that he has the luxury of a wide choice of payg vosps.

As somebody said, they may well want to get rid of little guys like me anyway.

i2Fuzzy posted : Hey guys. Here's the link to my post if you haven't already seen it:

»[VoiceStick] i2Telecom and VoiceStick still love you

The relevant part:

One change that may not be so welcome, however, is that our Next2Nothing account is going to change to $2.99 per month. WAY too many people were signing up for a N2N account, porting a number to it, and parking the number. Each one of these costs us money. Other people used it as intended, but would have the account open for when they wanted to make an international call. This is fine, but again it bleeds money from the company.

For the former group, there is no solution but to pay the $2.99 to park the number. For the latter group, we have two options:

1. Change your account to an outgoing only account, currently called the i2You plan internally ("Don't i2Me, I'll i2You"). The outgoing only account will not have a monthly charge associated with it.

2. Transfer the account to a MyGlobalTalk account. This will be the i2Bridge, combined with the MyGlobalTalk application that can be installed on your Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Symbian, or Android phone. We have an iPhone application as well, but Apple hasn't approved it yet. Again, no monthly charge associated with MyGlobalTalk unless you want a unique number with it that can be used for Global Call Forwarding.

I'm trying to keep the *2 plan alive. We're beating them up about it. For now the best we can do is to keep the *2 plan that includes the 250 minutes, but the call rates will be N2N. Currently that's 1.18¢ per minute incoming and 1.53¢ outgoing to the US and 1.2¢-1.3¢ Canada.
--
Ali Fazel
i2Telecom Representative
