Re: 2009 Chicago White Sox Thread

Javy was a cancer. He's not missed.

Sure they have time to tank. But these guys are playing well and have been for a while now.

Ozzie will NEVER shut his trap and the players know not to take this too seriously - Ozzie doesn't.

And if I'm a pitcher I listen to Coop. He knows his shit - the best in the game right now.

1st I know you read the link I posted. True Pros like Burls know about their bodies better than anyone else, and I hope Coop and Oz have learned to zip their traps.

As I have always stated I just want interest in the Sox till Labor Day anything past that is gravy. We havent had too many years of interest that long.

This team has surprised me but so has the division. I never expected it to be as bad as it is. Cleveland and KC are real disappointments. Detroit should be better than they are and Minnie is what I expected.

The over/under on the Sox wins was 78 and at this stage with the 2nd half schedule, under is still a real possibility.

I hate to beat a dead horse but if "He" didnt cheap out by not getting Hudson and keeping Vazquez, The Sox could be running away with this and filling the park and his pockets at the same time.

Finally, KW is the best magician since Harry Houdini. I just wish the piker would give him a piece of the action, rather than holiday turkeys.

C'mon Pat - you seem to have such sour grapes about anyone who has anything to do with Sox management!

I very much doubt that either Don or Ozzie had any problem with Mark's off-season work. Don't believe everything you read or hear on WMVP or WSCR.

I am so glad you got to see the game today. It must have been so damn cool.

I dont have time now, but will be back in action soon to eat a little crow but not much.

Hell, I didn't even really notice that is was a perfect game-in-the-making, or even a no-no till the 6th. Mark works very fast and he has been pitching brilliantly as of late, so to me it was a fairly typical performance. My kid and his cousin were very aware of it right away, but as 13-year-olds, they were staying as far away from me as possible.

My wife was late - she got there in the 6th and looked at the scoreboard and said "have the Rays really not gotten any hits?" And I realized what I had been watching - "holy shit - he's get a perfect game going!"

I was too bust watching the other games board and seeing if Seattle was really going to beat the Tigers, which meant that the Sox would be tied for 1st if they won.

That said, no-hitters are somewhat boring in terms of action. Buehrle was just grinding away, as usual. But Wise's catch was outstanding. It was a home run off the bat. He caught it when it was above the yellow line - it was about out of there. And it's nice for Wise - he's a career minor leaguer who is getting his cup of coffee in the bigs as a P/T player and he gets to share in the glory - good for him! Plus a few weeks ago in Minnesota my kid got his autograph and he was a very nice guy according to my Sister-in-law.

You pick a good day to go to the ball park... I had a hard morning at Physical Therapy and said I'm just going to go home relax and watch a good pitching battle,,, I couldn't believe it and with Wise's catch made for a wonderful afternoon of baseball... I couldn't believe Milton and Steve Stone never saw a No No... I was at Don Cardwell's in '62... First game as a Cub and the 2nd game of DH... Also saw a Milts P, which should have been a perfect game and Holzman's 2nd No No... these on TV...

But this one was special not many close plays except for that foul ball down 3rd and Wise's outstanding catch...

Also forgot heard Sad Sam Jones No No on radio as a very young kid, while the family was in the car on vacation... If I remember right he walked about 7 batters and the bases loaded in the 9th but still got the NO No,,, He was also the first African American to throw a No no,,,

I'm pleased to say that I was there - Box 147, Row A, Seat 1.

Woo hoo! And I'm just as pleased to report that I have Mark on my fantasy league team.

C'mon Pat - you seem to have such sour grapes about anyone who has anything to do with Sox management!

I very much doubt that either Don or Ozzie had any problem with Mark's off-season work. Don't believe everything you read or hear on WMVP or WSCR.

This team - pegged to go 70 - 92 by Baseball Prospectus - is now tied for 1st and is heading into a huge 4 game series with the Tigers. So I don't know about crow, but I know that both Cooper and Guillen have done outstanding work whether or not the Sox stay competitive this season (and I think they will).

It's a deep team - we don't need no Doc Halliday of Jake Peavy - with marvelous chemistry. They played pretty bad for about six weeks but have now come together. There is still plenty of time for them to tank, but Ozzie seems to be able to get the most out of his guys and Cooper really is the best pitching coach I've ever seen. Everyone involved deserves tremendous credit. They have a very young, inexperienced infield, but they all have potential and (with the occasional exception of Alexi) are learning fast.

I like this team and have said this all season. I think they have as good a chance as any to make the playoffs. After that? Who knows?

An outstandingly pitched game and a great season so far for Burls.

I wonder how that crow tastes for Cooper and Ozwaldo regarding them not liking Burls off season training regiment.

Un-feakin' real... What a game and one of the best situation catches I've ever seen... I was at Don Cardwells No Hitter and Walt "Moose" Moryn made a 3 out catch to save the No-No... But Wise's catch was unreal...

Congrats... to Mark Buehrle

Edit; Number 263 with an * for a PERFECT GAME...

Lots of drama in the 9th but they pulled it out. With Detroit idle tonight, we are 1 game out.

Yeah, what's coming is more Tampa, Detroit, The Twinkies in the dome, the Yankees, and the Red Sox. On paper they are better teams than the Sox, but as Ozzie points out, if the Sox want to play up there with the big boys, they gotta beat the big boys. So maybe they can! Or not - we will see.

Or as my little league coach used to tell us, "if you beat bad teams that doesn't mean you are a good team!" So we'll see. Gonna be an interesting 2 1/2 weeks.

Ok, i go away for a couple days and I see they lost a few. I'm sure as the previous post indicates, Dotel is implicated. WE got today off, but we can gain some ground going into the AS break. It would also appear that KW is sticking with this team. This means, playoffs or not, we'll see a completely different team next year. With that said, its really time to back this geriatric/rookie squad for what they're worth!
