All looks good for the future. I am not sure about this year but in this division my hope for interest through Labor Day is looking real good.(but those damn west coast trips scare the crap out of me)
KW or someone must have finally convinced the piker that you have spend $ in baseball to make some. What a coincidence how attendance has been rising with the addition of Peavy, nicer weather and our boys playing some exciting ball.
Rios is expensive but still young a good outfielder and what is really the choice for the future? I love the Pod but he is such a butcher in the field. Maybe they can DH the Pod next year if the lose Thome. Hey at least he is not a one trick pony like Thome. We will see. Lets get this series today. Oh Jose can you the see the strike zone today. I sure hope so. |

| Man! Another high-end high-quality player. A guy who plays a mean CF and can hit, even if he's having an off-year this year.
I love it. KW really has earned my respect and admiration. Now - who goes down (Wise?), and who losses his gig? -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| Its got to be Wise but Rios wont be here till tomorrow so he wont be cut until after todays game.
I have always had great respect for KW but if he was the one to finally convince the penny pincher that you have to spend a dime to earn a quarter, he is now a god. |

| reply to S_engineer i Hope wise at least gets a board game as a departing gift. I supppose this is good for Oz, having so many choices now, but I'd hate to see Pods get less playing time since he provided the spark that got the Sox rolling. -- BF69~~~Please stop suffocating gerbils! |

Although Pods has hit pretty good for the first half, he is not that good that I want him in the outfield. Unless of course to be a substitute for guys doing days off, even then I'd have to think real hard about it. |

| Pods total inability to play decent defense hurts him badly. he doesn't fit a DH profile, and in spite of his great offense, he really does cost you in the field.
It's a problem for him and any team that has him - it's hard to know what to do because his offense has been so important. Hopefully Rios will fill the bill on both ends. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| reply to S_engineer you guys are nuts....Pods delivered when the "star" players were dead as a doornail. He also provided incentive for the #2 spot to perform. Bench Dye whos hitting a whopping .160 since AS break. We need base runners...always have always will....and thats what Pods provides.
Now something we could all agree on is you might want to give Quentin a break....looks like hes limping every other game. -- BF69~~~Please stop suffocating gerbils! |

| He got picked off TWICE last night - once when on 3rd with less than 2 outs. If it was little little league the coach would bench the kid and withold his post-game snack!
But seriously, it's unforgivable. Getting picked off third in a tie game in the late innings with only one out is a cardinal sin. Basically he took us out of 2 innings - and it isn't how innings start that count, but what has happened after they end.
I agree with you that Pods provided a spark at the top of the order that only a real lead-off guy can. But you also lose a lot when you play him - his defense and base-running, even with the steals is very bad. So a certain amount of what he brings with his talents he also negates with his deficiencies. Ozzie once said - in 2006 I think - that POds just isn't a very good baseball player. His instincts aren't great I'm sure he must get as frustrated with himself as we do! -- Illegitimati non carborundum

I though I was gonna go deaf when Hawked yelled " look out!" Well at least I saw some meteors while watching that long game. |

| Don't meteors flame out? Kinda like some baseball teams in Chicago?
Yeah, Hawk screeched. He saw it way before Pods did - I think the guy sleeps on the bases or just has really bad instincts. I would guess the latter - he doesn't dog it - he always plays hard. He's just bad at a lot of baseball things other than hitting and running. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| reply to S_engineer Watching the game against Oakland right now. Damn shame this White Sox team can't play defense. Otherwise they would be right up there with the best in the American League. It's really frustrating watching bad fundamental baseball. Quinten and Rios can't call each other off on a routine fly ball |
