Sweaty Freddie didn't look too bad....on the the other hand the last place royals still scored 5 off of him. Between him and Contreras, it looks like nostalgia tour rather than a starting pitching rotation.

looks like Peavy has been pushed back at least a week, if not 2. I really don't care, as long as he is healthy. if he is here for only the last 2 weeks and the playoffs for this year, that is fine with me too. |

what a waste, losing to the O's. Way too many stranded. I saw Kenny W's mug on the back of the Slum Times today talking about his expectations of this team going into the post season. Maybe on paper...but this team will go nowhere unless they figure out what the phrase "timely hitting" means. What a waste of potential.

Chicago, IL | Contreras is and was around this year because he makes 10m, is not tradeable, and there is not much else in the minors. He is done starting now and Peavy is supposedly going to be up soon. We will see, if it even matters by then. |

Peavy, had a hard hit ball hit him in the elbow in yesterday game...
"What was unveiled was straight out of a Ken Williams nightmare, though Peavy seemed surprised the Wes Timmons line drive did so much damage.
''It didn't hit me that hard,'' Peavy said. ''I made a good pitch after that. It didn't hit me square or I wouldn't have been able to throw another pitch. Obviously, it's swollen and a little sore.''

well since the Sox have officially tossed in the towel, I would hope that Oz plays some of the minor leaguers they brought up today. The decision to let Thome go is a little strange, he will be missed. Now I can devote some time to the Bears and the Hawks. I hope they bring Pods back,and good riddance to Dye.

A bad year it was. Management decided to cheap out at the beginning and it cost them dearly. They tried to get by with only 3 starters, no centerfielder, a very weak bench and an aged over the hill middle of the order. The lack of an injury to any of their 3 starting pitchers and a great move (Pod) prevented this team from being the centrals bottom dweller.
This is a major market team and has to spend money to compete. As we see the yanks, boston, Laa, and Detroit, the 4 highest salaried A.L. clubs heading on to the post season. Hopeful late in the season mgmt realized this with the acquisition of Rios and Peavy. It can not stop there. More money has to be spent to get the type of team that can and will compete with the big boys. I won't play GM at this time, I will save that for the off season thread.
Finally, Since I fully expected what happened this year, I am not disappointed in the outcome. I just hope that ownership finally realizes that magic acts happen once in a lifetime (05) and money has to used now both in acquiring players and in the minor league system. |
