 | What about private wifi? So does somebody who is running a private, secure wifi network inside their home considered a "residential hotspot owner?" I think this absolute B.S. if that's the case. |

That isn't the intent of the bill - to have private residences keep logs. That is a gross distortion(and interpretation) of the proposed law trotted out by those opposed to it to try and drum up support to defeat it by scaring the avg citizen.
And besides, the 2 bills introduced by Republicans(1 in Senate & 1 in the House) have NO co-sponsors, are buried in Committees controlled by Democrats, and have virtually no chance of coming out of Committee unless re-written by Democrats.
This is just the privacy lobbyists crying wolf to rev up their supporters for battles yet to come.

 | The letter of the law needs to be fixed then. As it is now, private citizens will have to keep logs on their routers. |

1 edit | reply to fAcEtIOUs So every Mom & Pop Coffee Shop out there that provides free wi-fi is going to have to re-invest in new equipment that costs likely 100 times their current setup? |

It isn't a law yet or probably ever. It isn't even out of committee, where it is likely to die. And it doesn't have any co-sponsors either. And plenty of time to clear up any vague terms if it has a chance of going anywhere. »thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z···s.00436: »thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z···r.01076: Law being amended to retain data for 2 yrs: »www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/u···00-.html -- My BLOG .. .. | reply to fAcEtIOUs For once I agree completely with TK. Sometimes these bills get introduced just to generate fund raising among constituency groups. |

I am all for taking out child porn but we must start remember why we used to claim to be a free country. We should have a right to not have our activities tracked everywhere. In the library or other public institution. Away from these locations not fine.
Also adding an unfair burden to small business is stupid and asinine. Passing a law you claim Starbucks can follow and small shops not is what is wrong with the system today and is trend we need to stop or we are all doomed to much sorrier world. |

as for private WiFi if a porn viewer managed to break your security then the law still couldnt expect you to have logs as you could state it wasnt ment for public usage. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

 | linksys logs only go back so long and then they rewirte. they way the document is stated for TWO years. NOT 3hours. |

I am all for taking out child porn Gee this child porn must be everywhere since they have to have such laws. Funny I have been on the web for nearly 10 year and I've never encountered this child porn. Yes I'm sure it exists. I suspect in much smaller quantities than the fearmongers make it out to be. I'm prety sure the cops know the places on the web that pervs hang out. And if it takes them 2 years to bust some guy I say fire those cops and hire ones that aren't lazy and/or stupid. |

1 edit | shhh, the adults are having a discussion. quit talking out of your ass and trying to scare people from TPB. better question...how would you know that stuff exists there in the first place? unless you were looking for it, youd never know it existed. |
