[POLL] Backup & Imaging Programs - 2009 Member Choice

Welcome to the 2009 Backup & Imaging Program Poll.

Any computer owner who has experienced a hard drive fail or become unusable due to contamination has likely found that recovery of the information may be a difficult or impossible process without the benefit of a drive backup or drive image program.

The programs listed in the Backup & Imaging Poll for 2009 are all designed to provide the computer user with a "fall back" to use in the event that recovery of file information is warranted, and the purpose of this poll is to solicit your feedback on your favorite program. If your favorite software is not listed in the poll, please check the Other box and specify that program in the replies.

I am not sure if it fits here, but I use Windows Home Server. It backs up my machines nightly. If I hose a machine, I just re-boot from a WHS restore cd and it takes about 30 minutes to restore to a previous backup.

1 vote for Other for PowerQuest Drive Image 2002 for XP. (the best is still the best - have absolutely no problems with Drive Image 2002).

1 vote for ShadowProtect for Vista.

1 vote for Windows Backup and Restore (Vista)

Yes, I'm using two imaging programs for Vista.

Edit: I am also using ShadowProtect and Windows Backup and Restore for Windows 7.

I'm still using PowerQuest Drive Image v5. It's old, but it works for me.

Paragon is the only one that has been issue free for me.
(TI and PerfectDisk didn't like each other.) Also have used a Paragon program to change the Partition size afterward, so cloned a 150GB drive onto a 500GB drive, then expanded the size to fit the drive.

I also voted other

PING is a live Linux ISO, based on the excellent Linux From Scratch (LFS) documentation. It can be burnt on a CD and booted, or integrated into a PXE / RIS environment.
Several tools have been added and written, so to make this ISO the perfect choice to backup and restore whole partitions, an easy way. It sounds like Symantec Ghost(tm), but has even better features, and is totally free.

Thanks for the poll!

For me, great results over the last number of years with a combination of Karen's Replicator and Handy Backup.

I do not do full-drive backups, but instead nightly backup docs/photos/music/favorites/outlook PST files to network storage, and both of the above mentioned apps have worked great for me and my family.

I use Acronis as my main backup, but I also use Karen's Replicator and Mozy for backing up smaller folders/files, such as music/documents.

Thanks for the great poll Digibits See Profile!

I used to never back-up... I didn't for nearly 10 years. For the most part, I haven't lost much. I still have MP3's that I downloaded from the original Napster back when I had dial-up. I suppose I just have had good luck. I've had drives fail on me, but been lucky enough to copy the data off them. I did end up with a few corrupt MP3 (well, not corrupt, but skipping in them)

I just recently got a 1 TB External Drive and have copied all my important data over to it, so I feel a lot more safe now. I also have several online backup accounts, but haven't put them to use yet. Mostly because the data on my computer is very very very unorganized right now and it's hard to track everything down.
