Apple...

You tease.

I bet AT&T is pissed off. I can imagine RIM will be upset too because now their storm will have to compete with the jeebus phone on the same network. Apple could easily dominate the entire industry with this move, if verizon doesn't mess thigns up and try to stuff that annoying v-cast garbage down Apples throat.

it would be no worse than making you use iTunes to download anything.

They don't have what you call VCast garbage on Smartphones. I have had the 6800 and now the Storm. The Storm has VCast Music and nothing else.

Well it is rumored that a gsm version of the Storm is coming to T-Mobile sometime in the next six months, so perhaps that will somewhat minimize the damage to RIM with Verizon getting the iPhone.

Well looks like this isn't happening, at least not based on an update from CNET: "Correction 11:56 a.m. PST: We messed up. The 9 to 5 Mac blog we cited below is in fact from September 2008, so it turns out this is an old rumor. Because it showed up in our RSS feed Saturday, we, like a number of other publications, took it as a recent post and went from there. Apologies for the confusion."

That sucks, but it is true. If you go to the original article, it was published "Sun, 09/28/2008 - 13:28"

That... and the forced 2year data commitment (data required just to use the phone) is what kept me away.

I'd like to be able to enable or disable data cost at my discretion, and NOT have iTunes as the only means of loading applications.
