HP-G54, Wireless range of Stock vs Tomato

I decided to go back to the stock firmware after using Tomato for awhile.

As far as I know the default transmit power, 10 mw, in Tomato puts out the same amount of power as 100% setting in the stock firmware.

Yet, my wireless range is a bit worse. With Tomato, I would almost always get 4 bars (full strength) in the farthest room on the 2nd floor. Now I get 1. Web surfing used to be perfect, like having an actual wire, but now it's impossible. Web sites will not respond.

If output power is the same, why did wireless range decrease? Are there some settings I need to change?

Ok everything seems back to normal for now. Restarting the notebook did the trick, I think. Very strange.

Disappointing wireless performance was the reason I switched to Tomato.

Has anybody had problems with Buffalo's firmware with regard to wireless range or was wireless range always good with WHR-HP-G54s?

Wireless range is very good on all 12 of my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 routers running stock and even better when running Tomato and dd-wrt set to 32 mW.

If stock is 32mW as the DD-WRT is 70mW that's what I run DD-WRT V24/SP2 on 2x of these and the Ethernet Converter. No issues!

Stock Buffalo at 100% is the same as 10mW in Tomato and dd-wrt.

IMHO dd-wrt default of 70mw is too high even if many people get away with it.

Max on that is 251 on some routers using DD-WRT. 70mW is strong..
