CoxTech1VIP join:2002-04-25 Chesapeake, VA kudos:65 | [AZ] TiVo Tuning Adapter Availability Attention Cox Customers in Arizona:
TiVo Inc. along with Cox Communications is pleased to announce the availability of a new device the Tuning Adapter -- which enables TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD and TiVo HD XL devices equipped with a CableCARD to tune to channels that are delivered via Switched Digital Video (SDV), a new interactive technology.
The Tuning Adapters are currently only available in our Arizona, Fairfax County, VA and Fredericksburg, VA service areas.
Cox is constantly striving to provide customers with the best in entertainment and communications services. To this end, Switched Digital Video is being utilized in select areas, including the Cox Arizona system. SDV allows maximization of network capacity, enabling additional HD channels and entertainment options to be offered to Cox customers. To date, Digital Cable Ready (DCR) devices including TiVo Series 3 and TiVo HD devices equipped with a CableCARD have not been able to tune to channels delivered via SDV, as these devices permit only one-way communication to the cable network.
During the past several months however, Cox, along with the rest of the cable industry, has worked with TiVo to develop the Tuning Adapter, an external device that will allow TiVo Series 3 and TiVo HD digital video recorders to tune to channels delivered using SDV.
Tuning Adapters are now available and are being offered to Cox Arizona Digital Cable customers with a CableCARD in a TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD and TiVo HD XL digital video recorders at no charge.
Tuning adapters are easy to install. Self installation kits and Tuning Adapters can be picked up at our local Phoenix Metro and Tucson Cox retail centers, except our Queen Creek office. Visit »www.cox.com/arizona/contact_locations.asp for locations and hours of operation.
If you have any questions, would like to have a self install kit and tuning adapter mailed to you or would like to schedule a professional install, please call Cox at 623-594-1000 (Metro Phoenix) or 884-0133 (Tucson).

So does this mean that all of those HD channels that showed up in my channel list on the my TivoHD around the first of year are going to be viewable?

None of the HD channels are on SDV, so if you're missing some they're not available in your area yet. The channel list was updated when they first started rolling out the new channels, but apparently there are still some areas that don't have them yet.
If you want to test it, here's the list of SDV channels. You have to subscribe to the tier to see them even with SDV, of course. |

 | What I am waiting for is the supposed tivo on Cox dvr boxes we were told about a year or two ago by many stores.
Might be what convinces me to pay for Cox's crazy DVR fee. I know I will get flamed but seriously other companies only charge $5 for DVR service. |

 | reply to CoxTech1 Nice, only months after other markets got these. The technology isn't that difficult to implement. Maybe now I can get IPG meta data for my Scientific-Atlanta 8300HDC running via a CableCard, as for the past 2 month's it's had no IPG available, and seeing as it was working just prior to this whole problematic SDV rollout. |

| reply to CoxTech1 Cox phone support is not up to speed on this issue (are they ever?)
Called support, was transferred to orders, then transferred back to support. They wanted to transfer me back to orders and I wouldn't let them.
Support then figured out how to place the order.
Also, the unit is NOT available to be shipped to the customer as CoxTech1 Said. They did offer to install it at no charge and even offered to send a tech out today. I opted to have the tech do the install since there are no cox stores in the west valley. -- This Space for Rent... |

| reply to CoxTech1 Got A call from installations and they had no idea what the tech was supposed to do. Attempting to explain was useless. I was supposed to get a call back, but of course I did not. No idea if my appointment is still occuring. -- This Space for Rent... |

 | reply to CoxTech1 Are they going to have one available for Hampton Roads, VA? I have put up with repeated audio/video dropouts from Cox's DVR box, I couldn't even use my Tivo in HD.
I am about to give up on Cox and switch to FioS in April. |

How will a device that ONLY takes a non-linear channel lineup and provides it to you as a linear channel line up going to improve the quality of tiling on your SDV capable equipment? |

I never heard back from the installs department. I called to cancel the install and it had already been canceled. I made the trek to pick up a unit.
So it's installed, and doesn't work. Green light blinks 8 times. Tivo does see the unit, and I get a cable signal, but no SDV. The instructions were basic at best. Install RF, Install USB, nothing more. After hooking it up and not working I did some research online. Apparenly was supposed to get an install instruction card from cox. On it was an activation phone number. The number didn't work for me because I have an out of area cell-phone as my primary line.
Currently on the line with support. He things SDV is the DTV switch...
Edit: Tech took the time to look up what the problem is and I am now up and running. Apparently they haven't scheduled any trainings on the install and none are planned for the near future.

 | reply to CoxTech1 Picked up my Tuning Adapter this afternoon and installed it this evening, and it seems to be mostly but not completely working. I'm now receiving a number of channels that I did not receive before (e.g. CSPAN3, Fox Soccer Channel, the NHL Center Ice channels). But a handful of the channels are still missing (e.g. 124-CSPAN, 125-CSPAN2). 156, 159 are working but 157, 158 aren't. Any ideas? |
