• Tweaks are OK.

• Pull the router. Direct connect to the MODEM. Reboot the MODEM. Test your speeds again.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately that is not an option. The modem is in a telecom cabinet in the upstairs master bedroom closet. My linksys is downstairs in an office plugged into the wall and my computer wired to the linksys. I tried plugging my computer directly to the wall but could not get an IP by switching the nic setting to DHCP and I also tried using the same settings that I use to connect to the router and that didn't work. I am assuming I have to run the cd that came with the modem to be able to access it as I never did that when Time Warner came out and connected the internet because I connected the router to the wall and it started working immediately. I will run the cd for the modem and find out what I can then report back here if I can get the computer to connect to the modem.

• Pulling the router and hooking the box to wall should work automatically after you re-boot the MODEM.

• Your box should have DHCP with the router. So there is no need to do anything with the NIC.

I will do it when I get home from work later today.

BTW, I have 2 computers wired to the router and I do not use DHCP with those or for the other computers that connect wirelessly.

Did you assign a static IP to those boxes?

Yes, both computers have static IP's. I called RR to find out what was going on and after 3 phone calls and trying to connect directly to the modem, I get informed that my area is experiencing difficulties with slow browsing speed and to wait around 4 hours to see if they have it fixed so I am going to put this on hold until tomorrow.

Finally....

After waiting a few days I decided to call Time-Warner back to figure out what was going wrong. The tech had me connect to the modem directly and after getting a new IP Address, I was able to get a DL speed of 14,000. So, I reset my router to the factory defaults to see if it was in fact the router that was slowing things down. After I went back in to re-do all of the setting, I could not get an IP Address on the router. I tried renewing the IP many times and that didn't work then I tried resetting the modem then resetting the router and still no ip. I ended up restoring the router to a back up i had made before resetting it and I was able to connect to teh internet but once again, the speed has been cut in half when I run a test on here and at testmy.net but when I do a test from speedtest.net its well over what they say I should be getting (as I am writing this I did another test at speedtest.net on a server in L.A. and the results were 21215 down and 1514 up. Speakeasy.net on a server in L.A. shows 11254 down and 1647 up). Apparently, either my computer or internet connection doesn't like using the speed tests from here or the testmy.net because i always get results of half to less than half of what I am supposed to be getting. I am running my personal computer and a win2k3 server box off of the router so I really cant get away with not using it so I guess I will have to live with it. Anyways, Thanks for your help.
