Someone needs to get their facts straight!

NOT LAYING OFF.....ha, I wish that was the case, but it's far from the truth! Verizon FiOS is making budget cuts and laying off just like other corps.

Where have there been layoffs? I haven't heard of any union jobs lost. Now management is another story. RIF here, RIF there, RIF everywhere.

There have been 6 field Technician buyouts in the last 18 months, manager layoffs, and staff reductions in the EVRCs-- so Verizon is continuing labor cuts. The only real hiring Verizon has done is for the contractors who are doing the grunt work of laying cables--nothing but temporary jobs have been created.

Yeah, they have had a few buyouts, but I've heard of no union layoffs. Management is getting hammered though. And they asked me if I was interested in a management position, yeah right. I also haven't heard of anything but temp jobs hiring. Looking through the new jobs list system so I can try to find something closer to home only lists six openings of all job types in the entire ex-Bell Atlantic region.

Set to lose 150 here in Florida. Buy outs have been mailed and recieved.

The numbers in Florida may be increasing, per the union.

Craft not management.

The wording in the buyouts{at least for Central Region} has changed. The staff reductions are now mandatory, so if there are not enough people taking the current buyout that will force mandatory layoffs. Being 6th from the bottom in seniority is not a very comfortable place right now! *sighs*

IBEW contracts in New England (and many other places) prohibit layoffs. An IPP or "buy out" is not a lay off.

Management on the other hand, has their head counts reduced on a fairly regular basis. That and benefit slashing makes us wonder why anyone would want to be a manager here. Usually, the managers that know what they're doing (those promoted years ago from craft) get laid off and the recent college graduates (that couldn't tell tip from ring) stay on.
