Its fairly common for larger companys to go with this type of setup. That way there is only 1 or 2 ways to get to the internet that they have control over. Security would be a nightmare if each site had its own gateway to the internet. The only downside of this WAN setup is your connection becomes your umbilical cord, if it goes down just about everything grinds to a halt.
