I keep the SD override set to "OFF" on both STBs. That allows my Sony TV's to upconvert the 480i SD channels to 1080i compatibility because I am using HDMI connections.

Edit: I am assuming we did not get it because none of my boxes were off this morning, I always leave them on. All updates in the past have left my boxes in the off state. If we got it it a) did not wake me up and b) did not leave my boxes off. Was running late so did not turn the tv on.

To me this sounds like a MOCA issue. You need to check the diagnostics and verify MOCA speeds between the stb's and the router. Anything less than 180 and you will have problems streaming HD content between boxes.(should really be over 200)

Lest we point the finger at Samsung, I'll chime in that I've had the HDMI handshake issue with my HP DLP set. I'm quicker to point my finger at Motorola/Verizon, as none of my other HDMI devices exhibit this problem with any of my sets. I have 2 Samsung DLPs, and 1 HP DLP, connected to a multitude of HD devices via HDMI. Again, the only problem I have is with the FIOS TV equipment.

maybe this is the best the sd channels can look on a 55 inch bravia lcd. I made some adjustments and its watchable, the bluriness really messed with my eyes and maybe i need time to adjust, i looked on my 42 inch lcd and its alot better, i guess the bigger the tv the worst it will look, i just need 2 more channels to switch to hd and ill never watch sd again.

I got tons of calls about 'currently unavailable' (which this roll out fixes for the most part, and the next roll out will fix completely), and plenty about the HDMI handshake issue (although those are almost entirely Samsung TVs. Honestly, with all those calls, and with my own personal bad experience w/ Samsung DVD players, I plan to never buy a Samsung product again.)

Since I have only had a 7216 for a day and have only spent about an hour with it, I will have to do a little more research. I noticed that a few times I click Last to go back to the previous channel, the guide bar for the new channel would appear on the bottom of the screen, but the old channel would remain. When I hit last again, the guide bar would change to the current channel, and the current channel would remain. On the third press, the channel would change and the guide bar would change correctly as well. Saw that a few times last night...

As for the negative, I'm not a fan of the new mini-guide only displaying the current channel and I miss being able to see the neighboring channels in the mini-guide. FWIW- I have a SD TV in my bedroom with an HD STB-- with the SD STB I was unable to view any of my HD recorded shows from the HD DVR in the living room-- almost all of my recordings are in HD so it made the Home Media DVR pretty useless.

Now I can watch all my recordings, all of the channels, and I usually prefer to watch the HD shows letterboxed on the SD TV.

This happened to me but after I went thru all channels it seemed to stop. I came in late last night and the problem is gone. I assume the router needed a update to the channel tab.. Is it still happening to you or anyone else ?

I did see some "lag" but after 1- sec it went back. I was like 7+ sec yesterday. Only on the 7100 units I have not on my 62XX DVR. I'll wait another day before I put in a ticket,, Maybe Monday.

I just noticed on my 7100 box that, w/1.62, "sometimes" (not always), if you tap the ch down button in about 1 sec increments, the channel actually changes, but the info bar does not, it stays on the previous channel(s) info bar.
It takes at least a few seconds for it to switch/revert to the correct info display, almost until the info bar is ready to dissapear, & never if you are channel surfing.
For Example, if you start at ch. 668 & start tapping down, the info bar for each new channel displays ch 668's, until you stop & sit on a channel for a few seconds, so the box can "figure out" the correct info display.
It happened often enough that I was able to "make it happen" a few times this morning. It also seemed more likley to happen if you haven't changed channels for a while & start surfing fresh.
I don't know if my 6416/6200/25xx's will do this, I haven't had the time to play with them yet.

I think the reason for this is to act as a work-around for some consumer complaints. I know I'm not the only one to be affected by the STB not turning on when I hit the power button (I grab the remote, go over to the couch, hit power, and only the TV turns on, requiring that I get up off my lazy butt, and hit the power button on the STB). I think this was an easy way around that. Now I can just hit 'menu' when that happens and the STB turns on without me having to get up. I think this is a nice addition, although I think they should have mapped it, instead, to the FiOS TV button in the middle of the remote...

If I were to wager a guess, I would say that the screensaver is a bandaid for HDCP handshaking issues. By keeping the video output active all the time, they reduce the likelihood that your TV will fail to handshake when it turns on.

Depends on your TV. My best results are OFF - this outputs SD upconverted by the STB to HD resolution and doesn't cause the delay for resolution switching when going from SD to HD or vice-versa. I tried the 480i and 480p and there is only a small difference on my Sharp AQUOS. The best setting is whatever your eye perceives as best - try them all and decide.

Record anything from Hist HD on your 7216 DVR, and try to play it back on a remote 7100 HD STB and see if it pauses for a 1/4 second, every 2 seconds.. making the remote playback unwatchable.

I've not heard anyone else describe this problem and I'm trying to figure out if I should call VZ and open a ticket on this one, or if it's a common issue with IMG 160 on the 7216/7100.

If I understand this right, it's not the same as the info/ok buttons. This would give you a mini-guide. Today, under 1.6.0, if I do this, I get a mini-guide that has three channels - the current channel, plus the one before and the one after it. It takes up way too much of the screen. It sounds like this change eliminates all but the current channel, giving you a one-channel mini-guide.

7216, 7100 and 2500.

You may have to give them a reboot. I had to do that to all of them to clear out the memory.

All,

A small number of people in NJ/Philly/DE have gotten the IMG 1.62 release in advance of the full deployment as part of a trial Verizon is conducting. The nature of that early deployment to those customers has caused the logos for those with IMG 1.62 to be out of sync with the configuration on our network servers. The network servers are configured to support IMG 1.6b – the current production release in those areas. Only those customers with the early release of IMG 1.62 will see some of their logos mismatched as a result. This will be automatically corrected for them once IMG 1.62 is deployed to all customers in NJ/Philly/DE next week. Please keep in mind those customers in Harrisburg and Buffalo – running IMG 1.62 as the production release, are not reporting this logo issue.

If I record a program in SD prior to the img release and then play it back after the update, will it be altered or of the low quality like prior to the upgrade? Curious if I can make a before/after comparison. :uhh:

No offense but you have a rather naive view of how the cable business works. For the most part its not the STB's hardware that cannot handle features that you want so much or think you are entitled to get but its a software that rides on them. As I have said before Motorola, SA/Cisco, Samsung, etc. are able to build whatever a MSO want. The question you should be asking is why the features you want are not part of Verizon's, Comcast's, etc. requirements. The MSO's specify the feature set and capabilities of set-tops that are deployed on their network and a vendor builds a box to those specs not the other way around. Sure other vendors are chomping at the bit to sell boxes to Verizon but take my word that they won't be any different in any of their features because again they will be customized to Verizon's requirements.

These releases do more than just provide the customer with "new features" and fix bugs. They (in theory design) are to provide the sweet spot in delivery. Meaning, giving the customer what they will be satisfied with, at the lowest possible investment. The sweet spot comes into play when you understand that a major goal of support is to NEVER, EVER over-deliver.

It costs serious money to push out these updates. The ROI is carefully understood, BEFORE they are funded. A major goal is to reduce/eliminate as many service (phone/truck roll) calls as possible. That's how they are paid for.

And, that's how features, bug fixes and enhancements are prioritized. You might not like it - but, that's how it is. Try to remember, they view this as a f"or profit" business. Their sweet spot is the typical American TV watching family of 2.2 kids and a dog. The questions that are asked are all around "What will they bear in terms of features, price and quality". Figure out the sweet spot and your ROI (net profit) soars. Get it wrong and OPEX destroys your margin.

Verizon is among the best in getting it right!

That is one of the reasons I think Motorola's STBs suck. They have such a diverse product catalog. Instead of producing few products really well, Moto produces a lot of products OK.

It's a fallacy to think that another STB maker couldn't do a better job creating a MoCa/IP/QAM STB. Any contract that VZ would award would certainly be in any STB maker's interest to create a platform customized for the Fios platform. Your talking at least a billion dollar contract to the maker who can do better than Moto. And that can't be too hard.

Here we are, March 2009, and 1.6.2 is barely rolled out. The sluggishness of Verizon to fix major issues frightens me. God know when we might see 1.7.

What scares me even more is billing and the addition / removal of a STB. You have a better chance of winning the lottery then your first billing statement being correct after a STB move.

The firmware to enable the e-SATA functionality is developed by Motorola but if its available on DVR set-tops it still must be activated by Verizon. That could be a separate package that maybe charged extra.

Both my 7100 boxes got the 1.62 update yesterday. Overall, I would say SD channels look MUCH better to me. The true test was when we were watching cartoons last night (We love Spongebob...lol). The overall picture looked crisper, and the lines around characters eyes didnt have that heavy smearing/blurring effect that it normally did. HD channels look just as great as they did before. I don't have DVR boxes so I cant test the other stuff you guys are asking about. I cant comment on audio dropout because I never had any to begin with.

This is similar to the denial/non acknowledgement of the known issues between the Actiontech Router/Vista and its fios service.

There are numerous threads here, over its own forums and on MS's website related to the issue and this issue has totally been ignored by Verizon.

I got so fed up by my Actiontech dropped signal 2-3 times a day and bought a "Trendnet signal booaster" and my wireless signal have been perfect ever since. Ahh, another self labeled tech elite trying to tell users what is and is not important with the service. Here's a wake up call dude, PQ is one of the most important aspects when it comes to TV service.

My main beef was VZ broke the SD PQ, and instead of getting out an emergency fix they took their good ole time while many users were expecting a quick fix to rollout. VZ could have communicated what they were planning to do instead of keeping their users guessing. If they had just communicated, that would have helped the situation. I just tried to re-create your scenario - and it's still as you said. If I try watching a recording in progress, it does not say PLAY on the STB, and if I try to stop it, it thinks i'm trying to stop the recording as well.

I never noticed this before. You might be on to a bug there.

To answer the other question about if you scroll too fast with the info box, I just did it with no issues whatsoever.

I currently am watching the Sabres on MSG and changing back and forward between TW and Verizon and I see absolutely no difference at all. They both look the same and I see no improvement at all with Verizon. One of my biggest complaints is the picture quality of MSG Sabres away games....so it may be the feed.

Of course its subjective but I am not seeing anything to oooh and ahhh over!

For the kind person who did not believe I had both services I have attached a picture shortly after the FIOS install. I have cleaned up the wires a bit since!

- I only ever saw the "Unable to locate HUB" message once or twice (with 1.6), but have not seen it since 1.6.2.

- We should be closer to getting logos back for all of the newer channels that have been added over the past 6+ months

When you select from the DVR menu, & start playing back, from the begining, a recording that hasn't yet "finished" ( you're starting to watch a recording that's already, say, about 1hr into a 2hr show), there are a couple of "Quirks:

The DVR doesn't display "Play" as it should, it rather shows the channel number ... And ..
If you press "stop" during the playback , instead of "stopping the playback", it comes up with a warning screen asking if you want to stop recording instead.

Thanks for posting the list, Matt. As I've mentioned in another thread, the Hub erro increased after we got 1.6.1 and it's made using the MR pretty much useless especiall for the wife. Can't wait for thsi new version.

This question is not off topic. Can you list the fixes that are in 1.6.2. If not, can you at least tell me if the update will fix the "Unable to locate hub" error that occurs while using multi-room DVR? This is the most annoying problem, and it makes the feature absolutely useless. Not to mention that I'm paying extra for this feature, and unable to use it.

Honestly, if it were not for folks here, complaining to V, they would have probably not done anything sooner.

Let's hope the SD PQ is finally no longer an issue after 1.6.2

Expected? Only thing I ever expected from Comcast is to pay through the nose for nothing. F'ing rip off. HATED Comcast, so anything a company does that will acknowledge a "problem" or a misjudgement on their part is great IMO. Please find me that in this industry.
