Re: [Business] Buying a DOCSIS 3 Compliant Cable Modem

said by Bill03:

That's true, you're paying for it in your service fees. Believe me, you always pay one way or another. You're not getting that AT&T modem for free.
No DSL service fees. Original modem (Westell WireSpeed B90-36R516) was free, after the rebate. Replacement SpeedStream 4100 was not free; SBC charged for it, about the same as Best Buy for the same product.

We all know they don't give anything away, there is some amortized average cost for any equipment they "give" you.

Indeed I did tshirt. I should have used the expression "monthly fees" in my post. Sorry for the confusion.

It would take 3 1/2 years just to break even. By then I’m sure something better will be out.
Do you mean hardware wise, or standard wise ?

That seems like a good deal. Sorry if this has been answered definitively, but according to this post »Re: [Connectivity] Excellent support from Comcast HSI LiveChat s Comcast will not provision a customer owned D3 modem? I'm so confused with all the posts on this site

Thanks in advance

Thanks. Is there any verification from anyone who has purchased a D3 modem and had it provisioned for D3 tier?

I am also curious if Comcast would provision a D3 modem that was purchased from a 3rd party.

Cool! Well, looks like one of the major retailers I hinted at last week has them listed for sale.

I'd expect one more major retailer soon as well.

In terms of using your own modem, as with previous DOCSIS versions, you can either lease your modem from us or buy it yourself. I suspect since D3 modems only recently came into retail, there may have just been confusion on the part of the chat agent.

$500 - then $300 - then $150 - now we see them for $99(backordered but still!)... aint tech cool?
Prices drop rather fast, don't they?

As soon as the local Best Buy gets them in stock, I'll go pick one up!

Let us know how that goes, since you have as close to the perfect connection that Comcast's network can offer your powerboost speeds should be way up there.

I will be waiting to purchase one though as I'm in a non-D3 area so I will so no difference over my SB5100.

I suspect some of the confusion also stems from things like this...
Here is a screen cap of the current Comcast internet order page for Portland, OR. If you notice it specifically states that for the Ultra and Extreme packages, you must lease the modem from Comcast.

Hey all,
I just bought a Motorola SB6120 at Fry's Electronics in Campbell, CA for $120. I just prefer to do it this way.

So if you have a Fry's Electronics around (west coast) then let it be known, they had about 20 in stock.

It's not on their web site yet a »www.frys.com/ so I assume it might be a really new item for them.

In case any conclusions are being jumped to in this thread.

One still has to actually subscribe to the Ultra (or be automatically upgraded to Ultra) and the Extreme speedtiers in order to get those speeds. Just purchasing the modem via retail isn't enough.
