rozsa join:2007-10-22 Pelham, AL | Eudora setup to use att.yahoo SMTP servers No idea what brilliant decision-making process prompted AT&T to mess with Bellsouth's email server getups. The Bellsouth email servers worked exceptionally well for many years for me. Now that I migrated to the Yahoo servers my outgoing mail is... well, it ain't going nowhere. Used the proper SMTP server - smtp.att.yahoo.com - but I can't send out anything with Eudora. Whatever authentication they want, Eudora is not capable of it. I can start SSL, but cannot specify a port. The "new and improved" AT&T support page has no instructions for Eudora. I used Eudora for a LOT of years - I like it, I have an enormous searchable database, dozens of perfect filters, I like the way it functions, I really dislike anything else I have tried. I am pretty sure MILLIONS of other users feel the same way - at least that seems to be the case, if one looks at the Usenet Eudora newsgroup.
Does anybody know what needs to be set up in Eudora to be able to use att.yahoo SMTP servers?
I will switch ISPs, before I switch from Eudora.
BTW, one cannot email AT&T Support... they are too busy. |

For both SMTP and POP3 In the "Secure Sockets ..." field, change the setting to "Required, Alternate Port"
Ports 465 and 995 are the default alternate ports, so you shouldn't have to edit your eudora.in file. ... ... »www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2307hq.html
To get SMTP working you may have to attempt to send a message then accept the certificate. ... »eudorabb.qualcomm.com/showpost.php?p=34156
Additional setup info is here: »support.att.net/bellsouth/asp/co···12d8cd65
If you use a different From [address] than att.yahoo or bellsouth.net (I use a permanent forwarded email address) then you will get an error:
Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded: 553 From: address not verified.
To verify an additional address (not your bellsouth.net address) you will have to add it and verify it:

| Welcome to the nightmare! The "address verification" for the Yahoo! servers, is limited to ten email addresses. For my purpose, that is too restrictive, and I swithed over to the legacy SBC SMTP server that I used to use before migration. If that ATTIS (formerly SBCIS) server is ever retired, I am out of here. If I have to pay extra to gain access to a "Smarthost" to relay my email, I'd sooner pay extra for an ISP which provides a proper "Smarthost" to begin with. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
