[ADSL] TalkTalk Using Belkin ADSL Wireless Router

Am I crazy, or is TalkTalk somehow limiting the number of PCs/laptops concurrently surfing through their connection?

I'm visiting from the US, and I set up my sister-in-law's Belkin F5D8633 Wireless ADSL Modem/Router. PPPoA, if it helps.

Now my nephew's X-Box 360 and my neice's EEpC can surf at the same time, but it seems as if I'm limited to two clients.

I connect with my laptop, but it sometimes seems to kill one of the other client connections. Last night, the X Box was fighting with the main desktop (both wired by Ethernet into the router). When my nephew stopped his game, the desktop could surf, but while he was playing, the desktop kept getting "page cannot be displayed".

Am I just imagining things? Should I just go get a Wireless Access point and use the single-ethernet modem supplied by TalkTalk? Looking at the PC World website, there are loads of Wireless Routers, but I couldn't find an access point.

Also, is it just my relatives, or does everyone in this country switch off their broadband gear at night? At home, I've never turned my cable-modem off, nor have I ever turned off the wireless broadband router that is connected to it.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds to me like availability of bandwidth issue. If X-box is swamping the available packets, the PC may well time out if surfing. If both Laptop and PC work and you can also add a third PC you've found the problem! (X-box)

Look for a WiFi Access Point on ebay & the like 3Com make some but I wouldn't pin your hopes of putting that straight on the back of a BB modem and expecting all to work! You'll still want the a switch in there somewhere and or a router - which may as well be wireless - and if you like, have the modem built in too.

No, we don't all sw off our kit at night but lots of people do - if you ain't using it - keep the carbon footprint low. I applaud their environmental stance.

Thanks for the info. I may just need to upgrade the firmware on that Belkin. It's pretty squirrely with my Vista laptop, although the XP laptops seem to do OK.
