Still no Usenet, says FairPointI asked FairPoint's Jill Wurm about Usenet and got this answer today (March 4): "David, Not at this time. We are exploring options but dont have anything specific at this point. Jill" » granitegeek.org/wp-admin ··· senet%2FDavid Brooks, Nashua Telegraph, www.granitegeek.org |

That's pretty pathetic; one month after the transition, and FairPoint doesn't even know what they're going to do about a service THEY ADVERTISE in their Residential FAST FAQ (» www.fairpoint.com/northe ··· faq.html). David, I hope this fact appears in the Telegraph's FairPoint Watch. Tony |

Yes, it's in FairPoint Watch and on Granite Geek ... I don't think the Usenet community is exactly enormous, though, as I haven't heard much response. |

It will give them a slight competitive edge though, as TW (possibly Comcast to?) kicked Usenet to the curb last year. Some folks may make the switch or it could influence there decision if a service like this was included. |

Yes, Comcast ended free Usenet access last September. Some news stories suggest it was precipitated by the NY attorney general crackdown on child porn. |

Yea, thats right, Comcast jumped on that bandwagon a little while after TW did. This even furthers my point. Although it is a small add-on feature...it can still allow a little guy, Fairpoint in this example, to stand out from the competition in there area. |

Thanks for posting.
Despite their grand P. R. commercial suggesting the contrary, FairPoint is still one of the least communicative entities that I have ever dealt with.
You have been able to get a direct answer, at least, even if it isn't much more than the usual "I don't know".

Here's an e-mail I received today from a FairPoint CSR:
"The verdict is in. We do not provide internet news, after all. Fairpoint did not choose to continue with the service. The information I received indicates there have been multiple efforts made to update our web pages with no success, which is why you still see the faq on the web page. In the meantime, thank you for your patience as we continue to update our website to reflect accurate information. I am sorry we no longer offer a service you enjoyed using."

That's curious since they offer Usenet for their other customers.
The comment about not being able to update the web page is beyond belief.

We had offered to make an agreement to offer access to the three states customers...but I was also told earlier this month they are not going to offer it. It is a bummer, but they decided to go the way of most other ISPs. It could have been one (although small) feature they had above other ISPs in this region. |

Say doesn any one know if it is fairpoint or yahoo not letting my e mail to yahoo address go through? thanks I don't see how your question is related to Usenet service. Usenet service != email service. I would suggest that you start a new topic, under a Subject which draws attention to your email issue, and include any pertinent data, such as error messages, or Delivery Failure Notices. Something amenable to analysis. |
