If a layoff if announced they layoff the people with the lowest seniority first. So the longer I'm there the less chance I have to be laid off. Even before that happens they have to offer another job inside the company and my pay is protected. If these conditions cant be met and I'm actually laid off I will get payed for the life of the union contract by the union or until rehired by the company. What non union job offers those protections? |

| I envy you, I used to work in IT, and unions are mostly non-existent. I left the field, gonna do somthing else. Too many hours and not enough fair pay, no overtime, and no job protection. They just kept adding more and more responsibilities, making me work nights and weekend and on call for free, so I left. |
