Re: Stupid users need to be taught! Ohh yeah, just like licensing prevents drunk driving wrecks,or licensed/registered gun owners prevents shooting incidents, or licensed daycare (but the employees still abuse children), etc, etc.
Instead these "Stupid users", as you put it. Should be fined heavily for intentional use of a spam/spyware/botnet based operating system. With the additional punishment of installing, from scratch (no slip streaming allowed, or images) Win2k on a brand spanking new machine. No driver disks allowed, run all updates and they must do it in 2 hours time and achieve network connectivity. |

They will be "Re-infected" within the first 10 minutes of connecting Win 2000 to broadband.
I work at a small PC repair shop, and a majority of the customers we get have the Fake Anti-virus usuall (PC tools, Antivirus 2009, ect ect) Which we only recommend a "Nuke and Pave" installing only the OS (no older then XP) , updates, drivers, and AVG and Firefox....that's it.
Most of the customers don't even know they are infected, and they think the FAKE anti-virus is a real program.
Furthermore, how can you prove that the customer knew he was infected???
Some bots are not as obvious and run in the background. |

The way to install an Operating System from scratch is to wipe the drive, install the system from a CD/DVD followed by installing the updates and Virus Programs from CD/DVD disks (the updates being downloads written to the CD-R/DVD-R or pressed copies issued by the Publisher). Only THEN do you actually hook the machine to the Internet (since it should now be protected and up-to-date).
I do this for Macs for people in my user group without fast connctions (the updates can be downloaded and then applied offline) and I assume that Windows Updates can also be downloaded and the downloads applied offline. |
