| Verizon Wireless does the same rebate scam; not good enough to rely on some people not cashing in their rebates, but they get the extra bonus of people not using the last $4.74 (or whatever) left on the card.
It's almost false advertising, and I nearly bailed on a transaction because of this nonsense, but decided that I'll simply find a way to use it all.

It is a crappy practice though. I'd be willing to bet that AT&T receives a cut of the merchant transaction fees. |

| said by Steve :They told me explicitly that I could not do this; we'll find out when it arrives. The details from Verizon are as follows:
"Effective September 2, 2008, Verizon Wireless branded Prepaid VISA cards will replace Rebate Checks for all mail-in rebates, offering customers more choices to access rebate funds. Customers will have the option of spending their rebate card immediately, redeeming for cash, completing a bank transfer or requesting a paper check. Customers will also have the ability to track the status of their rebate by visiting www.verizonwireless.com/rebates or by calling Parago (800) 457-0864. Customers can check the balance of their cards by visiting www.verizonwireless.com/rebates, emailing VZWrebate@citiprepaid.com/rebates, text messaging BAL to #VZWR (8997) or by calling Citi (877) 899-8980. The rebate card may take up to 6 weeks to process."
This new rebate format will allow customers to use their rebate money immediately without a taking a trip to the bank. The drawback is that if you prefer a check you will have to put in a special request; also, Verizon has stated that they will not be responsible for rebate cards lost or stolen in the shipping process. |

I found out when I signed up on the rebate card's website to check the balance there is an option to transfer it to a bank account on the page. Unforunately, I had already used it once, and you must do a transfer for the full funds, you can't do the transfer once you've made any purchases with it. |

| reply to djrobx Wifeypoo and I were due two $50 cards. Never got them, called and got creditted $100.00 to our account.
We're not with AT&T any longer. Since the takeover/merger, there were just too many billing issues, so we dropped them and to VZW. Smooth sailing so far... (knock on wood) -- I don't sleep... I wait.
