Verizon Wireless does the same rebate scam; not good enough to rely on some people not cashing in their rebates, but they get the extra bonus of people not using the last $4.74 (or whatever) left on the card.
My entire $50 card went to pay part of my AT&T bill

It is a crappy practice though. I'd be willing to bet that AT&T receives a cut of the merchant transaction fees.

clubs:		 i donated the value of my AT&T rebate card i received several years ago to the EFF. since that time, i've been able to stop using all their services.
