Does Cogeco house the voice mail no
Does Vonage house the voice mail yes
It is my understanding that the quality of your internet connection can certainly cause these problems to occur. These are not the only problems if you read the original post. You have to have a consistent internet connection to get to any voice mail.

This is incorrect. Try unplugging your modem and calling your number. Bet you get voicemail.

As soon as I read that and he blamed Cogeco I laughed. I especially like the post explaining how voip works.

Voip networks are complicated and YOU ARE INCORRECT ... the problem I noted was someone trying to call me but got a fast busy signal and could not leave a message. In this case it will not re direct to the call answer service as the call did not make it to it's destination in the first place to understand it needed to be re directed to call answer. The fast busy signal is the clue for this type of failure.

If you experience a fast busy signal, this indicates a failed call and the most likely issue is the way the call is being handled by your internet provider. This usually gets mishandled with heavy traffic. Cogeco admits it prioritises it's voip transmissions over all others. Even with the modem unplugged as you suggest, this failure would have still occurred at the same time.

no you are wrong, vonage should have a CFU (cal forward unreachable) set that would forward your calls to their VM service when the terminal is unreachable. I say should because who knows what they have set up. CFNA (call forward no answer) is different and the two can actually be set different so calls are forwarded to a cell or whatever if the terminal goes offline and sent to VM if you just miss the call. The terminal has no say in where the calls get forwarded to or how they get to voicemail.

Cogeco has nothing to do with the call being handled... it is being handled like any other internet traffic (ie. you downloading a webpage or windows updates). Cogeco prioritizes ITS OWN voip traffic, not vonages.

Why dont you call Vonage and ask them to look at your call records to find out why that call failed. I doubt they will say because the terminal was unreachable... or that they even see the call in their call records.

Actually, no. I'm not sure where you got this from, but it's not true at all. A fast busy indicates a failure, often a capacity failure at the gateway (that belongs to Vonage). It normally means that Vonage's system is overloaded. Once again, not Cogeco's issue.

It sounds like the entire Vonage Tech Support manual says "Blame ISP, Hang up phone"
