cannot connect after installing tomato firmware

Hi All,
I have a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 Wireless router on which I put the Tomato firmware today. I followed the instructions that accompanied the installer including clearing the NVRAM at the last step. I am able to log in to the configuration page at 192.168.1.1 and can receive the wireless signal on my laptop. However, I am unable to connect to the internet. I know that the trouble does not lie with my modem because I can still connect to the internet when my modem is connected to my desktop PC. I've also tried resetting the Buffalo by depressing the reset button at the bottom of the router until the red light flashed. Any ideas on what else might be wrong? Is this a sign of a "bricked" router?

No.

Sounds like a configuration problem or MAC problem. Try turning the modem off for a while or clone the PC's MAC.

Re: cannot connect after installing tomato firmware

thanks for your reply. can you please tell me the source and target for cloning? on the MAC address configuration page, there are two fields: "WAN" and "Wireless". Which of these are the target? When I click "Clone PC", it populates the field with an address which is different from what I get when I run ipconfig /all from the cmd window on my windows desktop. I've tried both numbers in both fields (separately) but to no avail.

Try shutting off all computers, routers and modem, wait at least one minute. Turn on modem wait till all lights are up. Turn on router wait for all lights to stop flashing. Turn on computers. check for internet access.

*finally* got this to work. i had to change the dhcp address of the router so as not to conflict with the modem.
also looked copied the mac addresses for LAN and WIRELESS from the stock buffalo firmware over tomato. i made both these modifications, restarted the router and voila! not sure if it was both of these factors in combination of either one that made the difference, but i'm not about to try to find out after spending a week on this. important thing is it's working now!
