I haven’t even tried this. I thought everything on the retail Core i7 920 and 940 were locked.

Yeah, anandtech and others reported on this a while back. Definatly makes the 920 that much more attractive.

what they are showing is the QPI bus speed and yes, this is unlocked.

the i7 920 and 940 have what is called turbo mode and is like this:

the 920's default multipier is 20x. when turbo mode is enabled, the multiplier will go up to 21x.

the 940 is default: 21x. turbo is 22x..
