Re: TV Guide Network chnl being removed

Can you give us anytime table when ALL of the non-local analog will be removed? while I enjoy the "free channels" I get now they aren't necessary and, I'd rather see DOCSIS 3 and more HD
(So when I'm done with school I can get the VIP pack and an HD DVR)

Why would anyone care about that channel? They should not waste bandwidth on stuff like that.

Subject: MediaCom removal of FREE TV Guide/Guide Plus+ channel listing

MediaCom in Huntsville, Alabama removed their TV Guide channel in April 2009. This action was a result of adding "new & improved" equipment for the digital transformation, PLUS MediaCom wants customers to purchase a package with their new TV Guide. However, during the equipment upgrade, the embedded channel listing used by some users was discontinued. Home use appliances sold over recent years such as TVs, VCRs, recordable DVD machines, DVRs, etc. have the ability to view and easly record TV programming from a FREE embeded signal as part of TV Guide/Guide Plus+ (a TV Guide listing can be seen with the touch of a button and recording options available). Without the embedded TV Guide/Guide Plus+ listing, many users could not easly view & record programming. If you are in this situation, PLEASE notify your local MediaCom office and complain that your equipment is no longer receiving the embedded TV Guide/Guide Plus+ listing. You will be given some lip by the representative, but be persistent until they locate a technical person who can answer your complaint.

Since April, I have been visiting my local MediaCom office and inquiring about the TV Guide/Guide Plus+ listing. I had concluded that MediaCom was trying to force me to purchase a package in which the new MediaCom TV Guide resides (MediaCom tech support said I would require a $7.95/month box plus another $$$ package). Today (June 3) I was finally told that my research was correct and the FREE TV Guide/Guide Plus+ used to be embedded in the CBS affiliate channel (sometimes embeded in PBS channel). The local MediaCom manager advised me that ALL MediaCom regions are affected by this and will require another equipment upgrade in order to allow customers to receive the FREE TV Guide/Guide Plus+ channel listing. No timeline was given on when the equipment upgrade would take place, however I was told that MediaCom will probably make the change eventually.

Again, if you are a cable TV subscriber (especially MediaCom) and you are in this situation, contact your local cable office. The more complaints the office receives, the quicker action will take place. If you are a MediaCom customer in Huntsville, AL, contact Tommy at the MediaCom office (123 Ware Drive Northeast).

Good luck! Jeff

"Not sure why people are complaining. It's not a money issue why they removed the channel. It's an old outdated channel. Once you get digital you don't need it. Removing the channel also opens up room for some HD channels. People just need to let go."

People are complaining because not everyone has digital and even among people who *have* digital, not every TV in their house has digital. And that's funny, because they've yanked several channels off the analog listings lately, yet I haven't seen any new HD channels pop up. Do I think this particular instance was a money grab? No. The channel itself is changing formats. So I don't really care about keeping it if it's not going to be what it was. But almost once a day I've forgotten it's not there anymore and turn to it to find something on when I'm using one of the two TVs in our house that doesn't have a digital box. While I know what times my favorite shows are on, I don't always know what random programming is on the various other channels and am not always near a computer to browse nor patient enough to sit through commercials on various channels trying to figure out what is.

Just upgrading to digital to be able to use a digital box is *barely* worth the extra money. You're locked out of most of the channels unless you of course subscribe to yet another programming option, which they don't like to tell you. Most of the "good" digital channels are on this tier, so making that upgrade, AND on every TV, is a significant cost increase per month. I've only done it to have access to the HD channels, and only on one TV. And I don't have the extra digital programming because I can live without it.

I think it sucks, And when you do go online you have to go through so much to find it if you do that what you wanted to watch is over.

how are we suppose to see what is on the channels, if you take the TV GUIDE off????
Again, TV Guide going away was TV Guide changing itself...

However... one would think that there would have been options for them to replace it with.

how are we suppose to see what is on the channels, if you take the TV GUIDE off???? we pay enough each month for cable and keep getting less and less for our $$$$$$$.
yea, we have other options, BUT this is right in front of our eyes and then you take it away!!! alot of people don't have the capability of going to the computer to check on the TV GUIDE schedule......this is a BIG MISTAKE......please reconsider!

Digital channels with a DCT. Not clear QAM.

Also we don't provide support for clear QAM.

Something like that. I prefer dealing with it the way we currently do it.
Gee, a lot of us customers prefer things the way we currently do it... ie, analog with no converter.... and you tell us:

Digital channels are slowly taking over. Analog ones are slowly going away. You can't make everyone happy but the fact is more people are accepting the fact that analog won't be around for too long.

I am not for clear QAM and Mediacom losing revenue is not the reason why.
Let me guess, you work for Mediacom and don't want to field customer questions about clear QAM reception.

If Mediacom does it correctly and and sends friendly channel assignment with the Clear QAM channels the customer confusion should be next to nothing. The clear QAM is so difficult now because you have to tune by cable frequency and sub-channel and when Mediacom shuffles things around you have to rescan to find the channels again.

It's not a Mediacom decision. TV Guide was bought out and the new owners decided to take the channel in a different direction.

As I read in a Springfield, MO newspaper article, the scrolling guide was termed "antiquated" by one Mediacom offical and if over half of Mediacom's subscribers in SW Missouri have digital, i'm guessing the number in Mediacom's largest market (Iowa) is much higher.

There are other alternatives out there for TV listings, it's not Mediacom's problem that you chose not to use one of the alternatives.
I can completely understand that. It still irritates me that mediacom charges for it through the 'digital gateway'.. something that should be included in the cost of cable.
