Wave Falsely Advertising

Hi All,

So, my parents have been trying to get broadband to their house for 10+ years now. It has been a constant struggle and I have been trying to get a better alternative for them.. They can't even get DSL so there is absolutely no alternative except for slow cellular or sat.. I don't dare talk about Dial up. I've even looked up Clear Wire's new WiMax service.. But of course that's not available either.

A few months ago, Wave was dropping off flyer's in their neighborhood stating that there is now service in the area.. Woo hoo!! My parents signed up! They immediately called Wave and the representative said that service was indeed in the area!!

I wasn't present at the time, but they sent out a technician or a contractor to hook up the house. They dug the cable to the house from the end of my parents street. My parents were actually going through a remodel at the time, and there were other cables being dug at the same time.. So the technician buried the cable along with the others to the house.

So the cable line is in - At this point my parents are VERY eager to get their service and were eagerly awaiting for their service to be hooked up after waiting over 10 years.. And now finally they can experience what it's like to be in the 21st century!!

The installation technician comes along.. (I wish I was there to talk to him), and told my parents that service was not available. WHAT?!?!

So, let me get this straight... You sent us a flyer.. We called your representative. He placed in an order. Your contractor/technician came to bury the cable to the house.. And now the installation tech is saying we can't have service?? And you're telling this to us after not EVER having broadband in this 20 year old house? You have no Idea how aggravating this is..

A few years back, i was an installation technician for comcast.. I do understand how mixed up ordering processes can get.. but to have a technician actually come to the house and bury the cable?

Apparently, the neighbors a few blocks down the road can get service.. I know the exact location of the node and I believe it's roughly 1,000 - 1,500 ft. away or just over that..

My mom mentioned to me about the technician saying that it was too expensive to bring cable to that side of the neighborhood because of it's location.. Well then. How much is it going to cost? Because, there are doctors, lawyers, x-trailblazers, business owners that have houses 6,000 Sq/ft or more that would love to pitch in and do whatever it takes to get an internet connection.. So money is not an issue...

Any suggestions on how I should proceed? Should I keep calling?? Do I need to knock on some doors? What is it going to take to get Wave to extend their service another quarter mile?

wave sucks

@hctc.com

They made a mistake, shit happens...

As for extending the range to accommodate a few customers... well if I was wave I would be very cautious in doing this unless I had some iron clad contracts saying you guys would pay for the cost of having service out there no matter what. Meaning even if you have the service and cancel within a month, you would still have to pay for dragging that line out. My example was bad but there are too many variables. If they are smart they would not do this. My guess is that it would cost anywhere from $5000-9000.

Just my $0.02

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

So you think it's not even worth investigating further?

Regaurdless, these homes have NEVER had decent broadband, so they are likley to see a return on investment rather quickly. In my eye, $5,000 - $9,000 is a small price to pay considering the circumstances.

Okay, I just measured it Via Google map and the satellite pics.

The house is roughly 1,500 ft. to the nearest node. An RG-11 coaxial cable has a maximum range of 1,500 feet. Theoretically, I could run an RG-11 cable myself to my parents house and tweak the signal free of charge.. Thankfully, the node is on the correct side of the road and most of it is on my parents property. They have 7 acres.

I wouldn't see why Wave would turn me down if I did this myself, if it's already wired.. But whatever.. Would be easier if they just pushed it up another node about 500 ft.

Seriously, we are that close!

I would try again with Wave, which could have sent an idiot installer to the house.

I had the same exact thing happen when I moved into my new house seven years ago. Technician came out to install and said it wasn't available. He showed me my work order which only had video listed, with no internet. I asked him to try anyways and he wouldn't. After many times calling their main office I finally got someone to come out and hook it up. Turns out it was a screw up in their database.

My neighbors all had internet access from Wave at the time also. I even told the tech that and he didn't care.

Thanks for your reply.

Maybe that's what I need to be doing then. Just keep calling them.

I had given up hope, but I guess I should be proactive about this.

So, I called today.

I specifically asked to have an engineer come out and survey. She put my cell phone down in the work order so I can talk to them directly to see what it's going to take to get service.

I really hope they call me back so we can get the ball rolling.
