1 edit | [Split] Belkin N1 Vision: disconnects on a 2-hour intereval Hi guys im having this sort of problem but with me its every so often. Im using wireless adapter to play xbox 360 live and ps3 what i seem to be getting is im in a middle of a game and i get booted off due to me loosing connection to xbox live so when i try to sign back in. The router wont let you under testing the xbox live connect it detect that i cant connect to router and give me a note saying turn the router off for 30 sec then try again which i do and it works. But this is getting so annoying when playing online and this happens. Now i have my xbox live through a dmz and all my wireless settings to this as follows.
wireless channel to 1 Wireless Mode 11b+g+n Broadcast SSID off Protected Mode on Bandwidth 20mhz - 40mhz auto 802.11e QoS on
and have manually entered my dns and ip address on xbox etc one i havent done is mac address but i think it did it auto so its ok.
Now im getting terrible signals im getting some times full signal and only two bars now i do have my router by a metel/glass based cabinate which someone told me that can cause the signal problems which i cant see that doing so.
So im wondering if theres a fix to this or theres something im doing wrong can anyone please help me with this matter id be much great full for your help. p.s i do have latest firmware.
Thanks very much

 | reply to Oo_ben_oO what channel should i try i have no idear what these channels do |
|
 | possible are 1 to 15 (i think). try 11. the channel is the frequency, that the router uses. if you have bad link quality, try another channel... |

 | reply to Oo_ben_oO right ok man ill give it ago i do have an automatic channel function so that might help me by choosing the proper one for the job. thanks for the info man ill give this channel thing ago cheers |

 | The fact that it is at a set time, to me would almost certainly point to an electrical interference / wireless interference.
I agree with ikarus76 about changing channels - is there anything that you could think of that could be going off at that regular times?
One common cause where you see regular disconnections on the DSL connection (as separate from wireless) that is common is where there is not proper filters attached to a burglar alarm, Sky (Digital TV) or a medical caller. The reason is that they have a call back to base function.
I originally didn't realise that if you didn't pay for the service they will still call back to base on a regular cycle.

 | reply to Oo_ben_oO Hey
I think there is more to this issue i have the same problem with the N1 vision however this manifests both on wireless and wired.
How many other folks are having this problem -- should we be taking the routers back to the shop and getting a different one?

 | reply to Oo_ben_oO I was having this exact issue with my Belkin N1 Vision, I found out it's a bug known to Belkin, if you look on their website you'll find some beta firmware that fix's the problem, I've been using the beta drivers for around 3-4 months now and no longer get disconnected every few hours (this was a serious pain when playing online games)
here's the link:
And here's the info they have for the firmware:
F5D8632 - Pre-Release Fiirmware Update Summary This is a pre-release firmware update for the N1 Vision Modem Router, F5D8632. This firmware has not yet been tested or approved by Belkin Quality Assurance; if you install it you do so on your own risk.
The firmware is posted here because it solves the following problems that have been reported to us:
A VPN connection problem with Cisco version 5 and Nortel Contivity VPN clients A problem where the router could drop some connections on 2-hour intervals The download speedometer not correctly reporting peer-to-peer downloads using Universal Plug and Play The number of wireless clients in the Status Screen does not include Guest Mode clients
We would advise you only to install the firmware if you are experiencing one of these problems. |
