Re: Firewall Poll 2009

I've been putting Smoothwall on my collection of broke-screen notebooks. It was easier than making IPTables behave in DD-WRT and more fun than configuring either Netopia or Cisco routers.

Not quite the same thing: I've noticed that slaving my corp DNS servers to OpenDNS has cut my malware infections way down.

Re: Firewall Poll 2009

Online Armor Premium ++ gets my vote. With or without a router it is one hard -- if not impossible -- nut to crack.

Good job Tall Emu!

Got to update my previous post.

Zone Alarm Pro (Free to me) on two computers

Zone Alarm free on one computer

Online Armor Premium on another computer

Outpost Pro on another

Just trying them out. All seem fine now.

Still using the modem/router firewall as well.

2Wire Router

Desktop - Mcafee Suite Free from AT&T
Laptop - Online Armor Premium

I just replaced Comodo on my laptop with OA, and so far so good. I like that it's verbose and easier to understand as compared to Comodo.

Looks like I'm alone with the Private Firewall. I am getting kinda annoyed with its prompts (even in training mode! ) but overall I still think it has potential. It recently went freeware, for anyone curious, and I also started a thread about it and posted some screenshots.
