yeah thanks to him Comast instituted hard caps which lead to others doing so. You go you!
WRONG. The practices were more abusive and Comcast could just boot you without stating what limit you went over. They could say you went over the limit when you downloaded 5MB or they could say you went over the limit when you downloaded 50 Terabytes. There was no clear anything of what you were doing wrong since there was no limit or anything stated by the ISP other than they could kick your ass off the network for any reason they wanted. They could kick you off for being Judy's cousin and simply some guy at Comcast being angry as Comcast said nothing about why.

Funchords came along and there was pressure for the ISP to DISCLOSE what they consider abusive as well as to stop hiding their throttling practice WHICH WAS APPARENT.

It is like a business selling you something without stating what they are selling you. Hardly a practical and pro consumer business. They also can take whatever they sell at any time and make it not function without nobody knowing why.

Many ISPs in Canada and other places perhaps as well in the USA had implemented caps. It was not an idea that stemmed from a consumer pointing out their shady practices of throttling which they hid along with their abusive limit which was never disclosed and nobody could figure out what it was.

Funchords truly did nothing but good. The broadband industry needs oversight as most of the time their practices are ridiculously bad. The HSI business is NOT a competitive market. It behaves like a cartel if anything.

Re: Way to go!

they should have the right to kick you off THEIR network. It's theres. You only lease the access and they reserve the right to not service you for any reason. If you don't like it then fine, go find another provider.

Robb came along and everything went to shit. The on average 300+ gig cap is now 250gigs for everyone regardless of where you live. Which HE thinks should BE RAISED because its too low and should be raised based on Internet Apps and all that.

Also everything a Service Provider does is in their TOS such as limits they do not say what those limits are to protect them and keeping you in line. Why would Comcast say before the limit was 500gigs per month and everyone staying at 498gigs per month or buying two cable modems to double their bandwidth usage.

Although I think Robb has it out for Comcast for what ever reason. I don't see him going after Cox, Time Warner Cable, ATT or anyone else that does this sort of thing. He only goes against Comcast, and something is up with that.

Re: Way to go!

Several things, all of which you've been told before.

1. I had NOTHING to do with Comcast's cap. See »The FCC had nothing to do with the Caps

2. If a gas-station owner waters down the gasoline and then sells it to me as true undiluted gasoline, should I a) complain or b) open my own gasoline station?

3. I have never been a customer of Cox, Time Warner Cable, or ATT. I live in an area served by Comcast and was and currently still am a subscriber given no other choices.

Now get off my ass.

open your own gas station.

Two you have a choice, DSL is an option 3G services are an option. There is always an option, especially when you have reviewed VZ Online. You have an option, you just didnt feel like doing it. It's easier to sue then to switch.

In my case, I couldn't switch to anything comparable at my house. The fastest DSL I could get was 768. The review is for an apartment that I used.

Robb Topolski to blame for caps

Actually, Robb Topolski is one of the primary people who is to blame for the imposition of download caps by ISPs throughout the US. As a result of his false and misleading testimony before the FCC, and his efforts in concert with those of DC lobbying groups such as Free Press, Public Knowledge, and the Neuter America Foundation (all of which are supported by Google), most ISPs now believe that the government will fine them if they manage their bandwidth in other ways (e.g. by cracking down on P2P bandwidth hogs) and have therefore imposed caps. The FCC's decision against Comcast, in which Robb was deeply involved and was in fact quoted, is perhaps the #1 cause. So, yes, broadband users: Robb Topolski is to blame for that download cap on your account. I stated, at the same hearing where Robb lied to the FCC, that as an ISP I would rather not impose caps. But due to corruption at the top (FCC Chairman Kevin Martin was not interested in the facts; he wanted to bash cable providers, including Comcast, as a favor to the ILECs), GoogleClick (so called because Google absorbed DoubleClick and now is the largest purveyor of spyware and invader of privacy on the Internet) won the day.
