Re: Metro Detroit slow internet?

Yeah my speeds aren't so great either in Ferndale. I'm getting 50% of the 15mbit I'm paying for.

Troy is really slow.. I have to refresh the page several times before it actually loads if it does at all.

It's been extremely slow here in SE MI since Friday 5/8/2009. Traceroute shows traffic going through xo, att, and sometimes sprint.
I've never experienced this kind of lag in a very long time, so just wondering when will this go back to normal?

It's terrible lag. My browser times out often trying to reach sites like Yahoo.

Same over here in Troy as well.

*edit: It's been incredibly laggy, strangely, even on a Sunday morning. I wouldn't think there would be too much congestion at this time during the week.

anyone want to start the process of making them aware of this?

Speed test shows ok. Browser times out - can't find any sites!

Are you using WOW's DNS servers? If so, that's the problem. Change them to any other DNS on the planet and your problem is solved.

Using 4.2.2.1 for the DNS server - same problem.

What sites are you having problems with? I've been using Level 3 DNS servers for year and haven't seen an issue with them. Maybe some sites are having problems, who knows.

Pretty much...everything.

It's weird, it will be fine for 5 minutes then all of a sudden it will go through a 10 minute period where it takes two or three attempts to load a site.

I had been using
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
for quite some time. But the last week or so it was taking forever to perform DNS lookups. I changed back to WOW's servers and things improved significantly. I'm thinking that these other servers were having some issues as of late.

Don't know what to say. Over the last few days I haven't seen any slow DNS lookups and what not while using Level 3 DNS servers. Maybe I was lucky, who knows.

That might have been it. Seems better today. What I was experiencing was probably not packet-lag, but DNS resolving lag.
But that was an agonizing 3 day weekend.

Still slow for me.

*Edit; finally called them to mention it. They're having a tech come out on Friday.

I'm in Canton, and startinga few weeks ago, sites like hulu, nbc, abc, will not stream episodes.

i'm on the 8 mbps plan.

normal web browsing is very fast. and even the main hulu or media site works. i'll click on an episode and it will say loading. and stay at loading. forever.

i look over at the modem, and the send/recieve lights are not blinking.

i'v tried 3 different laptops, vista, xp, 2 different routers, no routers. wirelessly, wired. every combo. same thing. on multiple sites.

wow says its my computer, im like thanks.

anyone have any idea?

PS. youtube works fine for some reason.

Hey, try this program, »GRC's DNS Benchmark utility , and use the best DNS servers from that test and see if it help things out for you.

Things seem to have gotten much better this past week. Hopefully it stays this way.
