Keep rolling trucks. They work weekends too, don't forget. If you get enough trucks out in one spot maybe they'll realize that there's a problem.

Re: Metro Detroit slow internet?

I'm in Eastpointe and my WOW past about 10PM gets horribly slow alot

just did the test and it's 0.11mbps
0.11!
did a test around the same time a few days ago and I got a whopping 0.3mbps

this is supposed to be 8/1

I did both tests direct. I don't find any difference between direct or through my router.

@wideopenwest.com

I ve got almost the exact same results..dont bother call w.ow people..u ll be waiting 15 minutes on phone than they tell ya its your computer..my buddy in Sterling heights(neighboring warren)is saying the same thing,,,he pays for 8(down)-1(up) ..gettin 2-0,3..maybe we should just send this whole damn thread to WOW,'cause something stinks here ,we aint gettin what we payin for..

You gotta call and be persistent. I've not experienced any speed problems on my end, I just did a test from my laptop over wireless and got;
Download Speed: 7719 kbps (964.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1107 kbps (138.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

From my hardwired Linux box:
Download Speed: 8822 kbps (1102.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1103 kbps (137.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's about the slowest that I ever see from my house. I'm on the 15 plan as well...and typically see around 12.5 on most tests.

I'm seeing very slow speeds in Westland tonight around 10pm...I'm geting about 1.1mb on my download and about 1.0 on my uploads. I'm on the phone with WOW right now.

When I first read off my speeds of 1143 down and 1048 up, she said, "Well, that's good isn't it"? I said not when you are on the 15/1 package.

Now, we're talking about browser history, cookies and so forth...even though it's multiple computers and my Xbox360 all seeing bad performance. I cannot wait until she figures out that I have a router....:(

Anyway, I'm at least reporting the issue. Like I said, I don't often see slowdowns of any type...so this is pretty rare for me.

I had that problem a few months ago. I checked my speed with speed test .net and no matter were I tested the connection was slow except to toledo ohio where i was getting full speed.

I called jumped through all there hoops but made sure she relayed to the techs that I was in fact getting full speed to the teledo server and gave her the address of that server. she then gave me an appointment for a service tech. 1/2 hour later my problems went away and it's been super fast since.

May not be the same problem but check the toledo server on speedtest.net can' hurt.

I just tested this morning at 8:45 am and got the following:

Download Speed: 15389 kbps (1923.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1102 kbps (137.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

I did unplug my router and disconnected the coax from my cable modem and then turned everything back on before I went to bed.

The support person kept reading my power levels to me over the phone saying it couldn't be their issue because my modem was getting the full upstream and downstream power levels. She then went on to say that the Internet is like a highway and when you get a lot of cars on it, it just naturally slows down. I said that while I understood that, going from 15mbps to 1mbps was a bit on the unacceptable side as far as a slowdown goes. Like I said, I can deal with 8 or 9 during peak times because it's still fast..but at 1mbps last night, a 400MB download on my Xbox360 took like 45 minutes.......which isn't cool.

My speed at 5:40pm is:
Download Speed: 11374 kbps (1421.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 995 kbps (124.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

So, a bit slower than 8:45am....but nothing that I would complain about.

Now at 7:35pm in Westland:
Download Speed: 13142 kbps (1642.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1102 kbps (137.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

@wideopenwest.com

I finally (after 'bout 3 weeks)?? measured the correct speeds today..8./1 (mg..) I ve talked to our IT guy at work and he said try unplugin the modem power but also the cable itself ,for a whole day..so I did, this mornin, got back 9 hrs later,connected the cable to modem,power on and measured the right speed..he specifically said to unscrew the cable too..will see how long it lasts

It's now 10pm and I'm down to about 1.0-2.0 on my download speeds. Just got off the phone with the tech...they are going to roll a truck out to my house on Saturday.

Interestingly enough, a ping -t www.yahoo.com or www.google.com was showing differing TTL's. Sometimes it was 52 and sometimes it was 51. (remember, this was a continuous ping) Which means that I'm not taking the same path each time. Also, my latency is jumping around from 30ms to 300ms to the same hosts. I've also pinged servers that I run myself in the AA area and seeing the same sort of behavior with regards to latency.

There is definitely some latency and saturation problems on the WOW network in these areas.

Well, things have been alright for a few weeks now, but we are back to slow again the past few days in the evenings. I'm getting about 1.8mbit or slower on my download, but about the full 1.0 on my upload.

Time to start calling again to complain I guess.
