And that's where they get you.

madcowusa : Interesting and I'd like to see a sanitized scan of that too. They shouldn't sign ANYTHING because it could be an acknowledgment of infringement and possibly open them up to all sorts of legal BS. It comes across as, 'delete the files, sign this and we'll leave you alone', but may be just the opposite. I'd ignore it. Let them terminate cable if need be. Get a competent attorney to advise if things get more serious and not some chump out of the local yellow pages. Giving them any kind of response would let them know their automated copyright infringement system has a 'hit.'

Teach your parents to use SSL Usenet, preferably through a paid anonymizer service accessed over VPN.

anon : The letter probably isn't for downloading copyrighted material, but for UPLOADING copyrighted material. Are your parents using Bit Torrent? If your parents have no idea what it's about, then might try calling Wave. The letter might also be some kind of scam. Or maybe your parents computer is infected with some kind of virus that is making it act as some kind of illegal server.

Try searching google for "DMCA Notice".

Amorget : My parents got a letter in the mail from Wave saying that they downloaded some copyrighted material and if they don't respond with in 10 days their internet service will be terminated. Anyone ever received any of these letters before? What did you do about it? I would say to tell them to go to hell, but they don't have any DSL options, seems like cable is about the only option for high speed.
