Let Them Grow

I say let Comcast grow..if they can afford it awesome!! Just as long as other companies are allowed to go into the same territories i don't see the issue. Its when only Comcast is allowed in a territory..now that's an issue.

How about this:

You can grow to 40% with no restrictions.
IF you grow beyond that, you must either allow other companies to lease yur plant, or there must be another cable provider you're overbuilding on. Either way, above 40% there must be two cable providers in a given area.

Competition clause anyone?

Re: Let Them Grow

EEiieehh while your idea sounds good (it worked with the bell system) i only think the outside plant sharing idea is good. Other than that it is bordering on a socialist idea. But the fact that TWO operators need to be in the same area to expand....well i don't agree with it personally but yet a good idea to the issue at hand.

Re: Let Them Grow

Outside plant sharing is all I'm talking about. No use having two cables in the ground when one will suffice, typa thing.

Re: Let Them Grow

OOhh in that case sure why not...Besides when Someone like Verizon Or At&T leases out their copper pairs they get paid for it anyways.

While I like the idea of opening up outside plant to multiple players it is much more difficult with Cable, being a shared connection, then Telco Copper unbundled network elements. And even at that Telcos have lobbied successfully so they do not have to share new Fiber.

Seems to me solution is to separate physical first-mile network from service offerings. Internet is fundamentally different then previous networks in that it decouples how it is used from the means of delivery.

Electric deregulation separates generation from distribution. Market for generation is open to anyone, whereas distribution is a heavily regulated monopoly.
