As much as people bitch about Comcast there are lots of (mostly rural) cable providers who are far, far worse who might be happy to sell out to Comcast since they aren't willing to invest the money required to compete.

of course, your argument hinges on the fact that comcast _will_ invest money into rural plant. listening to many comments from comcast subs, it sounds like they don't even dump much money into some of the rural or older areas that *they already have*...
