| reply to CylonRed Realized I had not updated this - we are in Myrtle Beach as of last Sunday - we had to change plans a little bit as my best man decided to get married the same day we did - but he did it this year So we celebrated our 10 with a wedding- nice, small and private wedding. Much nicer than the usual big weddings - they did not even dance.
We are at the Camelot by the Sea - 18th floor. Included a breakfast buffet at a local restaurant which is rather nice. Eat enough breakfast and I do not need lunch. Thankfully they have a parking garage - 10 floors but small and narrow for our Town and Country EX but we have managed. Been quiet at night and surprisingly enough - less people than we expected. We are not right downtown - we are not close to the amusement park that seems to be the haven for the teens and college kids. Driving around has been no problem - 5 pm it gets backed up but is clear in abut an hour.
Wife loves the place on the beach (posting from the balcony at nearly high tide. Wendi has made sure we have done all of the touristy things - parasailing, shopping (UGH!), walking, driving, helicopter ride (I am a flying junkie and it was great), both hot tubs, and we spent a lot of this evening in the water - high winds and big waves today. Very sore after this morning and the waves were larger in the evening.
We did get free tickets to MidEvil Times (I had been, she had not) and cheaper tickets to Ripley's stuff by going to our first and last timeshare pitch - I knew what to expect and Wendi knew the basics. They were unsuccessful and we scored the free tickets that saved us roughly $104. While at MidEvil times - another hotel offered us $75 for a timeshare pitch - we passed. Now Wendi knows ALL about the hazards of timeshares. -- Brian

I have no problems with kids on vacations - I did them the vacation was for the family and a lot of them were to grandparents but there are kid appropriate vacations and some not. There are also kid appropriate places to go within the vacation that kids need not go to. All depends on the vacation... |

But I will post a review when I can... |

Problem is I guess near by garandparents (and they took 50 mi Train trips to do it), just don't exist any more.... I was never taken on a family vacation until I was at least 10-13 and could actually appeciate it vs just being PIA/shouldn't even be there... grandma baby sat,
And those I do I do VERY much... in the US VI as a 12 year old very much... before as worthless likely annoying human lugage... though carry on vs well behaved dog baggage issolated stowed. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

But also irritates me that people drag pased out infant/carrier age kids into bars at midnight that is not the place those people should be either.... that is what Branson and Disney are made for. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

4 edits | reply to CylonRed said by CylonRed :We did Disney for our honeymoon - not my decisions though. Well OK but expect that kind of environment in Myrtle not tranquil/quirky beachside by any streatch, unless you find a well issolated upscale resort, and then likely just the tranquil half.
Seriouly, if you Disnied you honnymoon... you owe it to yourself to go somewhere different for the 10th not just a redux. Some place you can just be, and maybe find fun people... not a BAZZILION others JUST LIKE YOU (or gasp worse)... why leave home in that case -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

2 edits | reply to CylonRed said by CylonRed :Wife wants to go to Myrtle Beach since we can't afford a cruise. Kids are not going with us and I would like to get something on the beach that is nice. No offense but unless you want your vacation in a sea side over commercialized chain Disneyworld, I'd go almost anywhere else, but Disney/Orlando and Miami.
Even not much farther south I'd do Tybie Island or Savanah before ever considering Myrtle. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

4 edits | reply to Matt Like I said - I don't have a real choice as I would not have chosen Myrtle Beach but I do plan a day trip to Charleston as I was just there for a day last week for work.
Notes for myself so I do not lose them:
The Breakers Resort - 3/5 stars Expedia - ocean front less than $200.00
Monterey Bay Suites - 3/5 - ocean front - average of stay $200.23 - free breakfast.
Avista Resort - 5/5 Travelocity - ocean front - average $214.00 - North of Myrtle Beach (N Ocean Blvd).
The reviews are maddening at the different sites. |
