| So I stopped by the Verizon store on Main Street. Apparently some parts of North Flushing/Whitestone already have FIOS available. He mentioned something about the end of July people will start getting notifications that FIOS will be available. Things are starting to look up! |

| Mom's house @ Whitestone section still not getting notices about FIOS - 149th Street above 20th Avenue - checked both by address & phone exchange #'s as of this moment.
It's generally expected that those of us in single/two family houses will get FIOS installed faster than those in multi-story or high-rise building, as it's easier for the installer to go to the corner box to get it going.
Our "scout" patrol will be checking the VZ Fios store on Main Street just off Northern Blvd. daily as the Hylan & VZ trucks have been working along College Point Blvd. around 22nd. Avenue lately (again - been up past this area several months ago.) |

But no need to "SCOUT" Verizon. Its being wired.
Even my area is looking like it will get FIOS in due time. Time Warner is on track for Docsis 3.0 as well.  |

4 edits | One more permit came in for Verizon in my area. Seems like there is a duct obstruction they are working on.

In about two hours on the first day, nine duct sections had been rodded. Three of those nine sections were blocked; one broken and the others silted up solid. Later on that first day, the powered duct rodder was used to rod a nearly 1,000-ft section that had a 200-pair lead cable, an air pipe, and a fiber optic cable in the duct. (from the photo above, not my area)
The areas without the duct obstructions have been completed this week. Last permit correlates to precisely where roads are being opened for sewer and/or water main work but I don't see any Verizon permits to the mix except for this new one.
Till I see actual Verizon trucks and till I see work being done close by me (I am not going to hunt for FIOS), I wont be able to tell if its for FIOS. |

I am in Union Tpke and 210 and they already laid the fiber line months ago in my backyard, received the FIOS direct mail, but when I called. I was told no fios yet hmmm... |

VZ's trucks are rolling further up College Point Blvd. & extra coils of fibers has been pulled up on the above ground poles along the Blvd. all the way up to 18th Avenue on the commercial strips for a while. This morning, they are working across 14th Avenue - I snapped this smartphone photo as they're working & drilling holes on the poles at 123th Street, just outside the Capital One bank's parking lot opposite Walgreen - the rest of the VZ truck fleets were just hanging out (on a break ?) at the small municipal parking lot (2 of them in distant background of photo).
It's getting closer now, but still no flyers or cards hanging on the door knobs yet & online site still showing nothing.

Permits here too. Permits are sporadic at best. By closer to year end hopefully we see something significant. Essentially by September 16 nothing significant will have been accomplished unless there is more work that isnt on here or more permits come out right after this work is finished heading to closer to year end or early next year. |

Parent's house over at Whitestone (along 149th Street near 16th Road) can now order FIOS installation online w. pricing plan info - neighborhood is ready & I saw a few ONT outside some of the houses, took these just 2 days ago - private house along 149th Street at the corner - saw a few others in this area. Nice & neat installation - a much larger box than the old grey NID box typically used in the area & very easy to spot & notice them as it really stand out. Also see these by Parsons Blvd. from 14th Avenue all the way down past Bayside Avenue. |

As for College Point, the pole installation is finished around Walgreen (14th Avenue near CP Blvd) and moved further west -up across 119th Street toward the Flushing Bay (which is really at the fringe of DSL signals now - over 16,000 feet from the CO/remote terminal)
Here's a few photos taken at the some of the poles since it's mostly if not all above ground in this part of town - had to look carefully & up close enough as it can be confused/mistaken with the old copper wiring. Waited almost 3 years since we moved away from downtown Flushing with 3 MB DSL service then to now barely 1MB/384 (was 768/128, yike !!) - 25MB plan will really, really make a hell of difference for "living at the edge" of broadband services. |

I just hope the permits I see in Forest Hills are for FIOS.
A ton of work is in progress here for September for sewer/water lines and there are scattered Verizon permits in town. My own guess says it will come here for 2010. When my building has a stack of FIOS flyers in the mailroom and/or has work coming into the building then I will know FIOS is here.
Till then, all this permit stuff is facinating but irrelevant.
Node splits and FIOS rollouts are continuous and will occur for the rest of our lives. |

Im on 166 st and 75 ave and like 5 min ago a verizon truck pulled up and the guy was checking the box. Does this mean they will be installing fios soon? I cant wait to leave time warner |
