1 edit | reply to mike k Re: [ fiber tech] Verizon FIOS in Fresh Meadows/Flushing
I didn't see the Verizon trucks here. I will soon though and I assume it probably is for FIOS in my area.
The phone lines in this area are decades old and I see a ton of new conduit permits in place.
Something is going to happen by end of this year or early next year. |

On my way home, checking up on VZ's work on 14th Avenue at 123th Street, 1 block east of College Point Blvd. - these 2 photos taken of yellow cable on overhead wiring - work crew were drilling on the poles last week. There's a drop down, vertical (grey colored) box now up on some of the poles nearby. |

1 edit | Saw this on Main Street yesterday. Do these trucks only work on FIOS?
Oh, and I saw Hylan pulling cables near my house this morning. Hopefully they are helping Verizon. |

1 edit | Road Runner has gotten crappy lately for the past month, making me crave FIOS ever so more.
I don't know if those are FIOS trucks, but thanks for the tip MacAlert. Here's to hoping they come soon! |

| reply to MacAlert Those trucks work on everything, from fixing problems with telephone lines to FIOS. Just because you see a couple of trucks working on a Manhole doesn't mean that is automatically FIOS. I see Verizon trucks like that around my house ( Manhattan) all the time |

2 edits | It looks like Fresh Meadows and Flushing have Docsis 3.0 from Time Warner now.
Forest Hills was also included, but there is no FIOS here yet, so my guess is after you guys are finished they will do us next.
Docsis 3.0 is 50Mbps/5Mbps.
Fresh Meadows, Forest Hills and South Flushing were Docsis 3.0 enabled.
Maybe you know this, does South Flushing have FIOS and did North Flushing or South Flushing get FIOS first? Obviously both will get it if they aren't working on both, but Im curious as to which one was first.
Thanks. |

1 edit | Docsis 3.0 is a joke for the price $99.95/m and it is UPTO 50/5.
My area is Docsis3.0 enabled, but for sure i m not going to pay $99.95/m for that speed. still waiting for my FIOS come to the area.
FIOS, FIOS, FIOS and Screw Docsis 3.0, only if they have lower tier plan.. something like 30/5 with lower price... |

| Niece over Fresh Meadows (near 73th Avenue & 195th. Street) now can order FIOS - mailers & flyers & mom in Whitestone (149th Street above 20th Ave.) also can order FIOS now (need to call Business Office - still cannot order the bundle online !!) & I've seen a few ONT boxes on the side/rear of houses in that area.
I don't believe FIOS is available in downtown Flushing (at least not along College Point Blvd/41st. Avenue) so best DSL speed is still max'ed out at 3MB when I checked it for brother-in-law's private house.
Not much FIOS activities from the VZ truck fleets lately that I can see unless they are working further north since I last saw them along the 14th Avenue corridor). |

@mindspring.com
| I can confirm that FIOS is NOT available in the vicinity of Utopia Parkway and Northen Blvd.
This particular area would be considered North Flushing. So it would not be correct to say that ALL of North Flushing is wired for FIOS.
The wait continues .... |

@mindspring.com
| reply to MacAlert Relax.
I forgot to type the word "being" in my earlier comments.
I meant to say "... being wired for FIOS."
To expand on my earlier comments, the point is that Verizon's deployment of FIOS is not uniform throughout a particular area. Some parts of, for example, North Flushing will actually have FIOS deployment and other part will not have any deployment activity. How Verizon decides which parts to work on is not always apparent to the consumer. So rather than say North Flushing (i.e. ALL of it) is being wired for FIOS, it would be better to say which part of North Flushing has observed deployment activity.
So everyone should keep posting specific locations where they see or don't see FIOS deployment activity. As well as their success or failure in ordering FIOS for a specific location. |

Woohoo...more Verizon trucks on Kissena Blvd. & Rose Ave. this morning. There was one cherry picker and about 4-5 trucks with rolls of fiber optic cable. |

@turner.com | Kissena and Rose? HmM where is that? I live on Kissena and Negundo. Hopefully Fios is up soon |
