With H1N1 Virus I wouldn't want to go outside. Internet is a lifesaver right now.

We need FIOS to more communities. Telecommuting is now more of a necessity at high rates of speed.

Yea. I saw them running conduit near I.S. 237. They are also running the string to pull fiber near Gold City.

Where is this store supposed to be?

Yes. They're making their way up Kissena pretty quick. Wonder when the inside roads will get wired.

I just drove by a Verizon (not "Verizon Wireless") store today. It is on Main street, the last block before it intersects with Northern Blvd. I was not able to go in.

It has a store display that says to the effect "Home Phone, TV, Internet."

Since FIOS is obviously not available for ordering by consumers in Flushing yet, I suspect the store is currently pushing DirectTV and DSL plans.

Does Verizon have a Bayside store as well?

@rr.com

part of franchise requirement with nyc is to have LPC (local presence center) in each borough. this is for returning boxes, paying bills, face to face customer service etc. you will not see one in each neighborhood that has service. flushing main street was selected because its high traffic area easily accesible by public transportation kinda like how time warner has a store in queens mall.

Right but Verizon was serving Bayside and other parts of Queens way before Flushing. Did they have to travel far to return their boxes and the like or did such require an appointment?

I take it once Flushing store and Flushing proper is wired up, then Forest Hills will start to be wired. Time Warner has said Docsis 3.0 is coming this year.

They moved that store to Queens Center.

Bayside was the first area in Queens to have FIOS INTERNET way back when. FIOS INTERNET does not require a franchise agreement with City Hall, so no Verizon stores were required back then. Now that a city wide franchise agreement is in place for FIOS TV these Verizon store are now required in order to provide customer service to consumers (wherever in the city they reside).

Ideally it would be great to have a store in every neighborhood, since the eventual plan is for Verizon to provide service everywhere in NYC. But the reality is that Verizon isn't required by the franchise agreement to put stores in every neighborhood they serve.

Right I understand that. So with the introduction of FIOS to Flushing, the FIOS store logistically will be in place so other areas should get rolled out and introduced and spread to other areas including my neighborhood of Forest Hills.
