Avenue up here closer to CP - rolling out thick black wires above ground. This afternoon, I noticed a few large thick & black coiled wires up on the pole but not sure if VZ left those up there.

I forgot to type the word "being" in my earlier comments.

I meant to say "... being wired for FIOS."

To expand on my earlier comments, the point is that Verizon's deployment of FIOS is not uniform throughout a particular area. Some parts of, for example, North Flushing will actually have FIOS deployment and other part will not have any deployment activity. How Verizon decides which parts to work on is not always apparent to the consumer. So rather than say North Flushing (i.e. ALL of it) is being wired for FIOS, it would be better to say which part of North Flushing has observed deployment activity.

So everyone should keep posting specific locations where they see or don't see FIOS deployment activity. Here's a few photos taken at the some of the poles since it's mostly if not all above ground in this part of town - had to look carefully & up close enough as it can be confused/mistaken with the old copper wiring. Waited almost 3 years since we moved away from downtown Flushing with 3 MB DSL service then to now barely 1MB/384 (was 768/128, yike !!) - 25MB plan will really, really make a hell of difference for "living at the edge" of broadband services.

In about two hours on the first day, nine duct sections had been rodded. Three of those nine sections were blocked; one broken and the others silted up solid. Later on that first day, the powered duct rodder was used to rod a nearly 1,000-ft section that had a 200-pair lead cable, an air pipe, and a fiber optic cable in the duct. (from the photo above, not my area)

The areas without the duct obstructions have been completed this week. Last permit correlates to precisely where roads are being opened for sewer and/or water main work but I don't see any Verizon permits to the mix except for this new one.

They do work for lots of customers. If you saw Verizon and Hylan, they could have had to move a cable from another customer perhaps? Unclear if it was Verizon work but Verizon is a client.

I saw permits then it seems that there were blocked conduit and it all stopped. The opening of the Flushing facility is good news.

Perhaps after Flushing is wired up, we will be next and we will see more activity here.

Time Warner has 1 node split scheduled for our community.

We are having sewer work done here so hopefully they can lay conduit while the roads are open by the city and perhaps this is why Verizon has stopped their permit activity here since the sewer work includes areas by the block conduit for Verizon.

In all likelyhood the old communications cables will be down there and its a GREAT time for Verizon to pop in conduit and cable as road ripups are very expensive to do. No need to duplicate work, just pop the conduit in by the sewer lines when the road is opened.

The city has a franchise agreement with Verizon and has conduit being built in the area. It only makes sense.

If Verizon doesn't want to do our area, thats fine with me, its just lost revenue for them. But my own guess is that we will be done in the future, but as to when before 2014 is unclear.

Flushing seems to be the area of concentration by Verizon as of today.

Verizon and sewer line permits being crossed is the only reason I can think of for why the conduit appeared to be blocked then stopped then the sewer permits just happen to come into the same area meaning road ripups for us. I hope this is the case. Will be by September that we get the sewer and water main work finished which really needs to be done badly. You pass a manhole and it stinks really bad and the buildings have alot of flooding and water leaks and the like due to the bad drainage. But such also affects fiber optics cables as well which can get damaged by crumbling infrastructure which is getting replaced.

They gave a specific address, and its all residential there. The manhole was marked up and I think it could be for FIOS since they are running new conduit. Its Margaret Place between Woodhaven and Union Turnpike.

I guess we will see by July what else is done. I don't expect much for this year unless your area is in deployment.

If we even see FIOS deployment in Forest Hills in late 2009 or early 2010 I would be really pleasantly surprised. Ideally it would be great to have a store in every neighborhood, since the eventual plan is for Verizon to provide service everywhere in NYC.
