| [Tomato] Why can't I?
Recently one of my routers crashed because a plummer forgot to remove it before he opened the second flood of God in the closet So i bought a new one, and thought...No problemo. I simply setup ip, and then install the config backup file.
But no, i was told that it was the wrong router??? How come the backup won't work on another router, isn't that kind of the point with a backup file?
And while i'm at it.
The best way of securing the routers seem to be mac allowance. So i've build a complete list of all the computers that need access. Is there any way to copy the whole ting over, or do i have to add them one at the time to each router? |

| Filtering by MAC address is NOT secure as it is relatively easy to spoof MAC addresses. Ideally you want to run WPA + AES with a strong key. You might be able to telnet into the router and add multiple MAC addresses that way.
If the replacement router the same as your previous router? |

| Okay i haven't seen any model version numbers anywhere. Is it on the original firmware? i can't seem to find it in tomato. It must be possible to make a backup of the config whitout having to print every setup page in tomato. And the other forum i was on originally (That i can't for the life of me find again) there was plenty of tweakers around, it must be possible to change a few bits in the config to make "generic" |

| Firmware=Tomato. I'd like a way to backup the entire setup of tomato, so i can replace it in another router. A "modded" version of tomato would be cool so i could simply flash a new router with an all finished version of tomato, setup excactly the way i need it.
As i've explained i run routers on a school, and i does happen that a student accidentally breaks the router. So far i haven't even been able to use the config i've saved as a backup.
It might have a been due to a hardware version mismatch as explained earlier, but i can't find the hardware version number anywhere in the tomato setup.
I hope this clarifies. |

| Damn I've nailed them to a wall. The only way there are coming down is the hard way. I considered ball and chain, but the students would probably gang up and carry the whole thing off |
